Booker has had smelly runny poo for a few days. I gave her cabbage last week and I think that is what started it all. I’ve been giving her lots and lots of hay and some oats and that seems to have helped. He poo definitley doesn’t smell any more, but she is still have a little bit of runny poo.

Sometimes it is normal, sometimes tiny pellets in a cluster, sometimes runny. If it persists for more than a couple days I’m going to take her to the vet.

Is there anything else I can try to feed her that might help ? She is eating and drinking normally and is her usualy spunky self, so I dont think she feels sick. I’ve just been feeding her red leaf and romaine lettuce for the last few days.

        Thanks!

From your description it sounds like excess cecals. Does she get pellets at all? I would give grass hay only (maybe with small amount of some safe veg). No alfalfa/clover hays, no pellets, no fruits or treats. If things don’t improve through diet – def see vet to see what else is going on. Any changes in brand of hay/pellets you are using? Water source?

Oops, I should have been more clear in my explanantion of her food. She is currently only getting timothy hay, oats, and red leaf or romaine lettuce. Usually she gets a variety, but since this poo situation I have put her on a strict diet.

No change in pellets or water. She is eating and drinking normally. I think she is doing better, I changed her litter boxes yesterday afternoon and checked this morning, she had used them and everything was looking solid.

            Thanks !

My mini-rex has had constant runny cecal issues for some time now. I found that I had to stop giving him, not only pellets, but romaine or red AND green leaf lettuces because it just destabilizes his gut too much. He misses his veggies, but it’s better than having to clean up poopy butt every night.

He gets a regular mini dish of canned pumpkin each night now. He loves it and it helps his cecal formation immensely. I intend to have him tested for intestinal parasites on his next vet visit just to be certain to rule those out, although I’m pretty sure it’s only his diet that skewed.
