So, Monty had his first ever destructive rampage. Aside from the things that were upsetting to me but not damaging to him (he chewed up a possibly irreplaceable picture of me and my dad when I was a baby), he got hold of and tore open two packets of pop rocks. Goodness knows how he got to them and most of them are just scattered all over the carpet but i think he’s eaten some! Can they do him any damage? Should I be contacting a vet? He seems to not be bothered by it and I know the stuff about them exploding in people’s stomachs are a hoax but he’s much smaller than a human and he’s not supposed to eat sweets! I guess I will just give him some greens and some hay and hope it cancels out anything bad? He can’t have eaten many, can he? I’m sure they won’t have tasted good to him!

          Silly bunny.
They may give him a bit of an upset tummy with the sugar overload, but I’m sure he will be ok. Just watch him closley for the next 12 or so hours to make sure he is still eating and pooping.

Agree with the water and hay, but not sure what a pop rock is? How big & what’s it made of?

Watch for straining when he poops, but otherwise he’s probably going to be ok. Listen and watch for gas, too. Might have a bit of a tummy ache.
Maybe get some baby simethicone in the house if he gets some discomfort, just in case. The hay and water is best for getting it to move on out.

pop rocks are those tiny candies that “pop”/crackle in your mouth. they are pretty much pure sugar and colourings. i think he can only have eaten a VERY small amount since there are TONS on the carpet (i’m still trying to clean them up). i really doubt he would have eaten much as they have such a strange taste/sensation in the mouth. i’ve given him watercress soaked in water since he won’t always drink lots of water unless he’s running around (and I’ve just put him in his cage as it’s bedtime) and just filled his hayrack with timothy which he’s happily munching on. it’s half past midnight here so i’m pretty much not going to sleep tonight for checking on him every half an hour. he doesn’t seem bothered at all – unless i’m mistaken he’s currently BINKYING in his cage. binkying. completely unaware of my concern, evidently.

hadn’t heard of simethicone, just googled it and the only form of it that seems to come in in the UK is an adult’s chewable tablet. so i don’t think that would be the right thing!?

Pop rocks are these little sugar crystals that “pop” when you put them in your mouth. They come in lots of flavors and colors. There is an urban myth that if you feed them to a bird, along with soda, that the bird will explode. Or something like that… Maybe it’s not a bird.

Lindsay, how is he doing? Perhaps he didn’t eat any, just wanted to get at the plastic. I would think that the feeling of the “pop rock explosion” on his tongue would not be very pleasing to him.

They still MAKE Pop Rocks? 0_o
Don’t they have some kind of carbonation in them to make them pop like that? 0_o

well, it’s now the next morning and he’s fine. he ate a LOT of hay overnight which probably helped. his appetite is fine and nothing out of the ordinary in the litter tray. so i guess he’s unharmed! wish I could say the same for my carpet, haha

                          That’s good news.
I think the binkies last night were a sugar high!

I think you’re right! He was CRAZY hyper when I found him and the mess he’d made. I mean, he’s quite often hyper but this was unreal!

Thank goodness it didn’t do anything to his stomach!

LOL good to hear he’s doing well.

He might have been binkying because of a sugar high, or…. he might have been binkying because he thinking, “Hehehe I got that woman good, hehehe look at her clean up the mess I made!”
