I’ve recently started introducing my bun to being picked up, i’m having a horrible time trying to pick her up and hold her the correct way so I kinda just  put 2 hands under her belly and lift (I know it wrong wrong wrong shame on me!)  so far it hasent been going too badly tho…she flips out when  i bring her too high but small low distanced like from the floor to a pillow in my lap she doesnt seem to mind.

So, around the same time i’ve started to do this she’s decided to like flatten herself lieing on the ground with her back feet kinda bunchd up under her and her tail up in the air…its the strangest thing at first i thought she was doing it because she was scared i was going to pick  her up but she makes no effort to actually move away from me. i guess I should ad that she does this while i’m petting her.

i dunno if she does it cause she’s mad or it trying to make sure i dont pick her up or cause she like lieing down.

Anybody else ever have this happen??

mine does the same. when hes about ot be picked up he’ll go into this scrunched up positons with his head down. he wont try to run or fight back. i think its their way of “bracing” or “preparing” themselves to be picked up but i’m not sure

when i pick my bun up i usually scoop him with both hands but i only use one hand to hold him close to my chest. i’m not sure if thats a “right” way to do it but he’ll freak out if i do it any other way

When a bunny enjoys being petted, they’ll put their head flat on the ground and their butt up in the air. So that’s definitely a good sign! If she also does it before you pick her up, I’m guessing that she’s bracing herself for the pick up.

If she is bracing instead of running that’s good. Means she’s tolerating the pick up. It’s good to reward them when you’ve done pick up sessions with them – so they associate it with something good. When you do get a hold of her, try place one hand at her hind end to support her back. If you can turn her to get all 4 feet resting on you – this should make her seel more secure.

the whole time I hold her I tell her she’s a good girl and give her lots of kisses and when I put her down she gets a treat and tons of petting
For now I start off lifting her onto a pillow on my lap then slowly pull it upright against me and slide it out from under her so that she’s against me.
I usually end up like cradeling her sideways with her feet on my arms.
It definatley sounds strange I know but its just what she’s tolerating for now lol
today I walked her from her bunny cage all the way to the bathroom and back without much fuss
I’m a happy happy bum mum today <3
