Both my buns were acting funny these past two days. First Lydia stopped eating and using her litter box. She’s on antibiotics for her bladder sand right now so I figured they were related but kept an eye on her anyway. Well today Phil didn’t eat of drinking ANYTHING. I sat with them all day and he refused everything. He also was laying funny on his side and not moving at all. Lydia started eating again but I decided to take them both in to the vet today just to be safe.
Well, it turns out that Phils stomach is so big its almost escaping his ribs.
He has some sort of blockage that needs to be removed.
He is schedule for surgery at 8 am tomorrow
He was given fluids at the vet before we left and seems to be doing better after that but the vet said if he doesn’t have dramatic improvement by tomorrow that he is going to have to go in and do surgery on is stomach. The survival rate is about 65% for Phil
. I have to get up every three hours to check on him and if he starts getting worse I have to call the emergency vet service in town. Its not gonna be a good couple days for me. Healing vibes for Phil please. I can’t lose my little boy. ![]()
Oh forgot! Lydia is fine and the vet said that she was probably acting funny to try and get my attention towards Phil. She was mimicking him to help me realize he needed help. My precious girl. <3
Vibes for Phil!!! What a smart girl Lydia is, give her snuggles for me. And tons of lovings for Phil, poor man. Seems like the day to have stuff go bad for our boys.
I was just reading about poor Moose! I hope he gets better too. Is he feeling okay? They kinda sounded like the same situation.
He’s in full blown stasis, hasn’t pooped at all, even after first round of meds at the vet a few hours ago. We’ll see how he does..
I hope he does okay!
Healing vibes for your boy!
{{{Phil-lop}}} Have they given anything else besides fluids? Are they hoping it will move itself?
Vibes for Phil. I think the vet is taking a bigger risk doing surgery rather than trying fluids and reglan and peptic ac to get the blockage moving. My rabbit Pepe was in stasis for 2 weeks and we finally got his gut moving with extra fluids (and I mean alot) plus reglan plus peptid ac.
Did the vet say what the blockage was?

Thanks for the healing vibes! They helped!
They just gave him fluids last night and then he slowly started eating again! they will be giving him fluids at the vet all day today to see if they can get the blockage moving but they are holding off on the surgery unless its absolutely necessary. with the way he was yesterday our vet thought for sure that he would need surgery but he miraculously got a lot better over night! we may not be out of the woods yet but hopefully he does okay for them today.
Oh that’s good news. Continued vibes for Phil. Fluids really can help with hydrating the blockage and help get it moving through the system. My vet was giving Pepe about 40 cc’s a day which is a lot – I felt bad for Pepe because he was all bloated and uncomfortable. Ask the vet about Peptic AC as well to help lower the ph in the stomach.
((((((((((((((((((((((Get better Phil!!!))))))))))))))))))))
Hope he continues to feel better and get things moving soon! ![]()
Sarita: I will ask him about Peptic AC. Is it a liquid I give him in the mouth? Is it pretty easy to do?
Thanks for the healing vibes Bunnyluvr.
and just a question…could Phil and Lydia still have bonding time today when i pick up Phil?
Or should I let him rest? They quite like being together just aren’t together unsupervised yet because Phil can get a little humpy still.
I think my vet may have compounded mine. It seems like it comes in tablets though.
I think you should let him rest and ensure he is pooping and peeing normally and then start again.
Healing Vibes for Phil! I also agree to let him rest as stress alone can sometimes cause gi stasis problems, so you don’t want to add any stress right now— nice quiet healing time for Phil.
Keep us updated.
Phil is home and safe. He’s eating much more now and using his litter box like normal. He looks a little funny because he has a lot of fluids under his skin. Still as cute as ever
Lydia wanted to copy him…of course.

Yay!! Glad he is doing better ![]()
geez that picture is too big!! sorry!!
But I’m SOO happy that he is okay. I couldnt sleep at all last night because I was afraid to take my eyes off him. He still could get worse but right now things are looking up!
Hooray!!
So glad to hear he’s home and feeling better!! ((((((((((((((((((Get even better Phil!!)))))))))))))))))
Thanks! He’s a little sluggish and uncomfortable but hopefully he’ll start to feel better today!
Since he’s better (Yea!) I’m going to move this thread to the Q&A section. It gets read more, and the support section is more for bunnies who don’t do as well and have crossed the bridge.
I hope you don’t mind.
