So even before I got Leroy, I read up on all the causes/symptoms/treatments of stasis, and I thought I knew what to keep an eye out for now, but now I’m not sure.  I fed Leroy and Jeannie their evening veggies about an hour ago.  It was later than usual by an hour or two becasue I’ve been doing homework.  I didn’t feed them anything unusual today.  They didn’t get any more pellets/veggies/treats than they usually do.  Like usual, they both chowed down.  But about half an hour ago Leroy’s tummy started making REALLY loud grumbly noises.  Louder than I’ve ever heard before.  I palpitated his tummy, and based on what I usually feel with him it feels a bit distended, but not too hard.  I compared his tummy to Jeannie’s and in terms of squishy-ness, his tummy isn’t significantly harder, but just a bit.  He was just running around my room, and now he and Jeannie are laying stretched out side by side at the foot of my bed.  I saw him munch on a few mouthfulls of hay not more than 15 minutes ago, and I heard him pee.  Don’t know about poops though.  There were poops already in the litter box. And Leroy doesn’t look uncomfortable.  He showed no signs of pain (no jumping, pulling away, teeth grinding) when I was prodding his tummy.  There was nothing recently that would have caused them any stress.

Leroy just jumped back in his box and is eating some more hay.  But I heard his tummy growl again.  Initially it was growling ever 30 seconds or so, but it’s slowed down even as I typed this.  Am I just over reacting?  Should I do a dose of simethicone?  I don’t have any on hand (*points finger at self * bad bunny mum! )  But I can run out and get some…

Now Leroy is running around and jumping up onto things like normal… Sigh.  They’re making my hair turn grey.

Thanks MB. I posted in your thread a little bit ago, but I hope Moosie starts feeling better!

I think whatever it was has passed. I haven’t heard anything from his tummy for the past 25 minutes. And he’s getting himself into trouble as I type this. he’s climbing into my laundry baskets with all my clean, folded clothing. Lol. I’ll keep an eye on him, but I think he’s doing fine now. And on that note… I’m going to bed. It’s late and I have class in the morning. I’m only going to get 5 hours of sleep which is NOT enough for me. Boo. :-/

Oh, good it sounds as if he improved. Hope you get some quality sleep! btw, Jerseys tummy is loud most nights. She eats fast I think.  Maybe things were different for Leroy because his stomach was more empty when he got his veggies?

It sounds like he’s just fine, and “passed” whatever it was – probably gas.

I would suggest that today, after you’ve rested and gone to class, that you stop at the drug store and get some simethicone to keep in the house. I did that months ago and haven’t used it yet, but except for keeping an eye on the expiration date, I am relieved just knowing it’s in the house, just in case.

I’m definitely stopping at the store to get some for Moosie!

Oh yes, Pam, I’m going to get some this afternoon so I won’t be in that situation again. I’ve been meaning to get some for the past several months, but I always forget when I’m at the store!

He was fine this morning – no more rumbly noises. So maybe he did eat too fast or something last night. He’s ALWAYS been one to scarf down everything in sight as fast as possible. Jeannie prefers to actually taste her food, lol. I scatter his pellets for him to “forage” for and to hopefully slow him down. Or I use his daily ration as rewards when we’re doing tricks. but I just toss a couple piles of veggies into their pen in the evening… I think I’ll start spreading out the veggie ration throughout the day.

                            That all sounds good.
I’m sure he’s just being a piggy in disguise.

Aren’t some bunnies just naturally ‘talkative’ when it comes to their tummies? I notice Fiver has a grumbly tummy more often than not, but he’s not in any distress (not like he was that day he wouldn’t eat and was pressing his belly to the floor-when I had to send him in with the hub in a car that was about to break down)…mostly when he eats something like oat hay, which is more fibrous.

I understand pumpkin (canned plain) is not only good for clearing up poopy butt, but also great for moving things along as well…works both ways. I give Fiver a small dish of it every nite at bedtime now and he’s been really regular since. ^_^ You should see his ‘bunny butt twitch’ the minute I put it down. xD

I want to add that I wonder if mini rexes are prone for these little episodes due to their greedy appetites.

Ooo. I should try the pumpkin. I know Leroy will love it! Haha! He’s a pig and will eat just about anything!

His tummy has never been noisy though, which was why I was so concerned.

Petzy, I think you’re right and that Leroy just ate too fast and inhaled some air along with the veggies. Who knows. He’s been fine since.

And I now have a bottle of simethicone, just in case. Is there any difference between the “non-staining” and the original formula? I mean, obviously the one doesn’t have any dye, but what about effectiveness. And does it really stain that badly? Have you had any problems with the regular formula staining clothing or carpet or bunny fur? Anyway, I bought the regular formula because of all the bottles of simethicone, it had the latest expiration date… 1/2012 compared to 4/2011 for all the “non-staining” bottles. I’m really hoping I’ll never have to use it, so I figured I’d get the bottle that I could keep the longest and worry about any spills later. Sheesh. If I have a sick bunny on my hands, the last thing I’d be worrying about is a ruined shirt anyway.
