My Newton litter box trained real easy. He was 6 weeks when I brought him home (Born July 3rd 09) He slept in the litter box, I figured cus it had a wire base for the dropping to go through like he was use to from the breeder…….so i added a small tupper sq contanier.. he went for that right away… he puts his butt right up the back of it to pee. Some times pee would miss and leak down the sides. I eventually got a cat litterbox that was bigger & higher on the sides. Well I would find the litter box dumped.. and all over the cage.. So I had an Idea.. I put velcrow on the bottom of it.. Velcrowed it to the cage.. !! Worked perfect..
Newton has moved into a new home. Three level Condo Apt. He does no like to do business at all in his condo. He waits till I open the door for a run. Fine with me. Fine.. as long as I do not let him on the couch. If I do not let him on the couch he will spend up to 5 minutes doing his business in his out of cage box. If I let him on the couch, (cus I just want to spend time, since he does his business, does a few laps of the basement and returns to his cage on his own.) He will park his butt on the top of my couch up agaist the wall and spit out about 30 poo’s.. or do you call them Binkys.. ( all call them Newts..) What is up with that.. why does he have a hole basement.. and condo to live in.. and poo’s on my couch back .. down the wall.. is he telling me this is now my space????? Anyone got any idea’s………… on this..?? His cage has no Newt’s.. Nothing.. no where..
Deannaline.. Newtons .. mommy.. pet owner![]()
Sorry for the spelling errors in that.. long story.. forgive me.
do you call them Binkys.. ( all call them Newts..)
haha. Nope, I just call them poo and sigh alot. Newts is a cute term though!
He seems to be marking/claiming your couch. Totally common. Does he pee there also? It is strange he doesn’t poop in his cage boxes though. Could he be eating the “newts” in there? Some bunnies eat their regular poop also.
i call em poops.. binkies are the cute jumps and flips they do ![]()
It sounds like marking, but I’m more concerned about him not using the litterbox in the condo. It’s really not good for them to “hold” it. What happens if you can’t let him out one day for some reason? We all have different events that arise in our lives. This is one of the great things about having a large cage or condo… just in case your bun can’t have exercise time that day, they’re not smushed into a small space. How does he do with the different levels? It looks like they’re very far apart. You have a box or something on the bottom, does he have “steps” for the other level?
The levels are about 2 feet apart. The bottom and middle each have something he jumps up on, then a second jump to the level. He was jumping it the first day in … I new he could cus when he was in the small store bought I had the top open and he just sraight out the top. Plus Newton could open the door. So I had to clap it. lol..
I have seen Newton eat his Newt’s many times.. I let him out at 6:30 in the morning.. then in the afternoon and at night. Today he has not been out since 6:30 and no new Newt’s to be seen. I know if I let him out right now he will go to the outdoor out house and let the Newt’s fly. He doesn’t drink a lot, wait I will go check his box now. Nope no pee’s or Newt’s. Weird ay.. he eats tooo…
Oh sorry guys.. I though Binkys might mean poops.
He has not pee’d on the couch for about 3 months now.
I am going to get him a litterbox like the one he has outside the cage. Larger.. with high sides.. I got it cus he cant scatter it out unto the floor.. I think he like it better cus he can back up his butt agaisnt the wall. Just like he does on my couch.. LOL.
Ok, time for me to let him out. I will let you know just how much business he does.. since it’s been 9hrs.. ok..

P.s .. What does this mean (…..as everyone took their seats at the BB meeting, I was invited to start. ) is there some meeting you all attend)
Here is him getting around.. the levels..
A step covered in carpet.. don’t wan’t any slivers..
Oh.. LOL the other day.. I was watcing him.. he did one of those flops.. flops himself down.. not noticing his butt hanning over the side of the hole. eventually.. he started falling in.. and he did.. was to funny and way to cute as he tried to save himself.. the he.
Have you tried taking the dirty litter from his outside box and putting it inside the box in his condo? That might help him get the idea. Or just move that whole box into his condo.
Ok. guys.. Let him out.. took him 15 minutes after nosing around to jump in his outside outhouse.. he did 16 Newt’s. I don’t think he pee’d..
I am going to buy another little box like the out of house littlebox put the soiled one in his cage on the bottom. I have to buy another anyway.. Cus when Nalla and Him are doing there bonding between levels.. sharing boxes etc..
Oh on the bottom of the cage is his carrier. He get down from the second level on that .. lays on it.. and goes inside it….newspaper fun in there.
If anyone want to see baby pic’s of Nalla’s click here. She will be 3 weeks Thursday.
Anyway.. gym time the pic up that new litterbox..
Later all..
I have seen Newton eat his Newt’s many times.. I let him out at 6:30 in the morning.. then in the afternoon and at night.
His regular poops as well as his cecals (the softer poos sometimes called night droppings) ? I see his hay rack there. Looks like it’s to get hay when he’s out of his condo. Does he eat alot of hay? I’m wondering if you put some in his the front of his box in his condo so he could get to it easier. Sometimes bunnies that eat alot of their own poop are looking for fibre.
What’s the plastic bag in his condo? Doesn’t he chew it?
Oh sorry guys.. I though Binkys might mean poops.
That’s funny, since the site’s name is BinkyBunny. Imagine if it did mean poop! Binkys are that funny jump they do when playing. That’s a great picture of him coming down the levels. Good action shot.

Ah, that’s just my silly signature i made up. Sort of based on AA meetings where those attending announce their name and admit they are alcoholic. In my case – it’s a Bunaholic. Wouldn’t it be great if we could attend meeting for Bunaholics?! But members here are from all around the world so out meeting is just on these online forums.
Just a thought…if you are interested in meeting with other “bunny people” there are groups that meet. For instance, where I live (Australia) there is a local group called Rabbit Companion Association. For those who have them as pets and meet to discuss care and concerns.
I love those pictures! You guys really did an awesome job on the condo! It looks great.
I wonder if you should confine him to his condo temporarily to see if you can get his litter habits back on track. This can be useful sometimes for fixing bad litter habits, and it might work in his situation.
You may have seen this already, but here is the link for the BB litter training page. It might help:

(The hey rack has been both ways.. on the inside and the outside.. Right now inside.. and he is not really doing it.. on the outside. he would pull the hay through and toss it.. Now I fill I bucket.. and put it on the second level………. when he empties it.. he tosses it down to the ground level of his Condo.. lol.. Villa.. DAM thing never came with instructions. .Never new inside or outside the cage.. ended up using a bucket.
What’s the plastic bag in his condo? Doesn’t he chew it?
The bag.. plastic ( is a case, from an empty water bottle) he loves it.. I save all for him. He goes in and out like a tunnel.. chews the base which is cardboard.. I have seen him rip the plastic.. but he spits it out. He will chew the cardboard base and run in and out for like 35 minutes of play time.
Oh sorry guys.. I though Binkys might mean poops.

Well that is cool, and laughed my ass off. I’d join.. I am an Bun Alcoholic and a Binkybunny AA place to add also.. I add an addict.. !
Crap.. I dont think the quote worked like I thought.. Who is going to understand that.
haha, it’s ok, I understood you. Well you’re in good company – lots of Bunaholics here!!

Did that last night.. nothing all night.. and let him out at 6:30 Am this morn.. took 15 min before going to the outside box.. about 15 newt’s.. and he went back into his cage.. again nothing today.. he has been out twice and went in the outside box.. I will let him out again around now.. lol… and he will most likely dump in the outhouse.. lol
Hey if I am ever gone for a day or two he will have no choice.. and being supper clean bun.. he will do it right…
P.s. He has unlimited hay.. Timothy..
That is so funny that he does that. He obviously does like his “outhouse” – lol !
Maybe try some hay in his condo litterbox just to see. Many bunnies cannot resist munching hay and pooping at the same time.
nope .. your reading it wrong.. luvs the outhouse outside his cage no hay.. will not poo or pee in cage even with hay…. only poos’ outside the cage when I let him out..
Sounds like he needs some litter training in the cage then, since he can’t be out 24/7.
i really think you should try to put the outside box in his cage. it might help!
Good I should proof read before I submit.. I meant..
Hey.. no newts` I put theoutside box inside his cage.. 2 Newts.. lol.. 3 nights…
He has been out twice today.. morning and now at 4. Went in his outshide box like normal.. and it’s the bran new one I just bought.
Rabbit Companion Association?
I wonder if there is one in perth?
sorry for the off topicness![]()
my bunnies just sort of ‘got’ what the litter box ment. i had to start them off with putting some droppings in the box first. put the box in where he poops most, the out house? good luck!
ps. hes so cute!
Oh my god.. Guess what…!!!!
Newton $*&! in his cage.. and I do mean $*&!.. and pissed..
I had put a pillow on the second level about 5 days ago for him to lay on…
He was out at 6:30 AM and 12:30 PM today…. doing his business outside the cage….
Well I just went in and checked on him, and holy $*&!.. $*&! all over that pillow, and he pee’d on it… about 40 turds…
First time I seen $*&! in his cage.. all over ….. Never !!.. what the hell.. he must have had to really go.. lol
So I pulled the pillow out.. and put the litterbox up on that level where the pillow was. I don’t think he ever laid on it anyway.. He seems to lay on the top level all the time. Well that is where the box was going to have to go when I move Nalla from the small cage to the big cage on the bottom. I plan to give Newton the 2 top levels.. and her the bottom till I am sure.. things will be fine. That is like weeks down the road..
But wow.. Never seen this.. I plan to let him out one more time tonight. Clean the box in his cage and see if he does any thing in it over night.
Even when Newton was in the store bought small cage… in always went in his box.. Cleanest Creature ever..
Will let you know tomorrow.. ugh..
It sounds like he very deliberately marked this pillow. Which sort of tells me that he very much so chooses not to use his condo boxes and only his outside box. Like he just doesn’t want to toilet in any part of his condo. Your comment on how good he was in the smaller cage makes me think his litter habits are still really strong. He view the outside box as the toilet and will only go there. What a funny boy! I think if he were left in his condo without play time – he would nominate a box inside the cage and start using it. But if the current routine is working for him, I guess there’s nothing to worry about. Obviously he can do all his business like clockwork.
Just a thought….you could try putting the soiled pillow slip in the litter box with nothing a very small amount of litter scattered on top. If he uses it, you could then remove the slip and add a little more litter to the soiled stuff. Also, you could try moving his outside box gradually closer towards the condo. A little closer each day until you can just pop in inside the bottom entrance. Leaving the doors open so he can run in and hopefully use it. Then if this works, you could put it there every day he has his run time and eventually leave in inside the condo permanently.
Update On Newtons Litterbox habits….
He now after 6 weeks in the new condo has took to the Litterbox on the second level…. I moved it from the bottom level after trying the pillow in it, and he poo-d & pee-d on it. Put the litterbox in its place.. and shazam! Now I do now have to feel worried about his times out.
Yet… you know what.. he has gotten so boring… lol.. he doesn’t stay out with me no more… 5 min tops and he runs back in his condo….
So I am now happy that Nalla will be here in three wks. I think she will put some spark back in him.
See more pics of Newton here.. http://cid-40f550e9032400fa.skydriv…?ct=photos
