Because that’s what I’m heading for on Tuesday. My dermatologist was unable to remove my granuloma on my toe this last week because the whole area needs to be scraped (OW) to ensure the thing won’t come back and she didn’t do nerve blocks. Apparently they are going to have to numb my toe in four places and according to my husband, it won’t be pretty.
So I’m set up with a podiatrist on Tuesday morning at 11. (SO NOT a morning person) They shove the needle in and squirm it around for a bit to find the nerve, then inject. I am going to be a raving maniac by the time they get me prepped. Someone is going to lose a tooth…or an eye.
I’m also worried because she said it looked like I have an ingrown toenail. Now I’m afraid the doc is giong to take the nail off my big toe. The only thing bothering me is this stupid growth! I had the option of silver nitrate for 6 days, but was told that hurts worse.
I feel like I’ve had enough of doctors (and vets) already this year. Help.

Oh, MM, that sounds difficult. My first thought was to get them to allow you to take tons of pre-meds, like xanax, and just float through the procedure.
I’ve never had this done, but since you are so vulnerable medically, it sounds like it’s quite necessary. If the worst happens, we will send you bunny toe socks.
“Not a morning person” 11AM????!!!! LOL. I AM a morning person, and that means I slept late today, finally, on a day off – until 7 AM.

Ouch Mimz! I could barely read through your post. Will your husband not at least lie to you in this matter and say something like:”it won’t hurt a bit” Maybe the lie was “it won’t be pretty”
LOL.
It might be not so bad after all, they are going to numb it before and I imagine it is after the procedure it may bother you but there are pain meds, right?

lmao….lol @ Pam Yeah, I’m a slacker in the worst way. Being a stay-at-home mom for 20+ years does that to you.
Even though I was so tired from being up early (for me) and on the road for 2 days in a row this week, every time Mimzy got up the night after his dental I was wide awake and watching to be sure he ate…I still didn’t pass out from exhaustion until about 3 AM. And my body insists on 8 hours, it doesn’t care when…so if I sleep for 6, somewhere in the afternoon I am suddenly conked for at least 2 hours.
I’m a slug. I admit it.
I have tried Xanax before. Personally I prefer something like lorazepam for pre-surgery jitters, only because I can handle the after effects much easier. Xanax tends to make me wig out worse after taking it, even temporarily.
I’ve been taking vicodin for back pain for almost a year or more, so my guess is I’m going to regret how immune my body is to it now.
I should clarify that this is not a tumor on my toe, technically it has ‘oma’ at the end of it’s name, but it’s like a blood vessel that has grown a pocket for itself outside the skin layers…and it just bleeds and grows until you take it and it’s root out…like a dandelion.
I just know this is going to cost a lot of money and I think I’d rather just shove some duct tape onto it and yank real hard…lol

Sooo…my appointment was this morning, and wouldn’t you know…the nasty part of the growth had dried out enough that it just twisted off in the doc’s fingers…and it all looks good, right?
Wrong.
He wants to do a partial matricectomy on me tomorrow (meaning he will remove part of my nail) because he believes this ‘proud flesh’ as they call it, will come back because the nail is digging into the cuticle on the side of my toe. So I’ve had to pay $200 today to find out I’ve got ingrown toenail and they’re going to cut it out…my gosh I am frickin’ psychic.
This is what I did NOT want. My mom had her large toenails removed and this ugly, hard crap grew back in it’s place and she had trouble with them for the rest of her life…enough to make her wish they’d just amputated them. (a horse had stepped on them and ruined the nails)
This is just too much. I’m an emotional basket case as it is…all the crap that’s gone on for the last 6 months and now this…. I really think I’m being fleeced here, financially as well as medically.The weird thing is…speaking of a doctor who likes to go to extremes…this guy looks so much like House it is s-c-a-r-y…. 0_0

Mimz….I made this very special just for you. We can now be toeless buddies. Remember my nail just randomly came off like a month ago? lol. Don’t look if you don’t like toes!!! But really, don’t worry about it, I’m sure it will grow back fine and look just as pretty
Now mine….is questionable but I don’t care. Nothing some polish can’t “fix” hehe! {{Toe Vibes}}

Lintini… ewwwwwwww. I saw the “I haz” before reading all your post, since I was just scrolling down, and I got all excited because I thought it was a cute bunny picture. Nice surprise. Lol. Sorry, I’m just pretty grossed out by feet in general. Hope that nail grows back soon for ya, Lintini!

Well sorry I haven’t updated for a few days. Honestly, that was the WORST experience I’ve ever had and I hope I never have to do it again!
My toe looks horrible. I get all queasy soaking it. First nite I couldn’t stand for more than a few minutes without feeling like I was going to toss up. And this is with vicodin for pain and lorazepam for nerves. It was a nightmare.
I should’ve gone with the silver nitrate. I now have a bloody swath plowed into the left side of my left big toe and it looks like it’s going to take longer than a few weeks to heal. The only saving grace was that the op itself was relatively pain-free…he numbed my foot with some weird gunk that felt like someone pouring Ice Nine on my foot…it kept the needle sticks from really hurting…but he didn’t numb me enough and I felt the first slice…so he had to go back and stick me again. Yikes. However, nothing came in on my portable radio while I was there. So since I was awake for this I could hear everything he was doing, all the cutting and scraping…ugh!
I’m not even going to match your pic, Lin…till this thing heals a bit more. Honestly, it’s a bloody stump…ew! 0_o
Thanks everyone for all the good vibes! I do NOT recommend doing anything that will cause you to have ingrown toenail…WEAR SENSIBLE SHOES PEOPLE! You don’t want this to happen to you! -
Supposedly this was all from wearing wrong shoes, or maybe just socks inside of tight shoes…either way they said I got the node from an ingrown toenail.
Personally, I think the first doc was just insulted that I denied having ingrown toenails (all my toenails looked like this) and so she sent me off to her friend the podiatrist to make me suffer.
Either way, it was too much to do for one little piece of flesh. It still looks like heck and it’s almost been a week. This is going to take forever to heal. I could’ve put up with 6 days of burning pain over this.
Sorry…but spending large sums of money for the purpose of what basically amounted to using a shotgun to kill a mosquito makes me really grouchy. > -

I’ve had 4 surgeries on 1 big toe and 3 on the other for ingrown toenails. Had to section the nail 2x on one before it worked. Did the silver nitrate, didn’t work. That numbing spray is the WORST. Luckily, I’ve been “ingrown” free for 4 years. Mine seemed to be genetic. My father had the same issue, as did his mother. Gee, thanks!
