Carrots are fine – just let them know not a whole carrot at a time. But don’t worry if for a little while if they can only have 2. It won’t hurt them.

It depends on how much you are thinking of increasing the pellets- how much do they get now?

any increase should be done gradually- as it can cause mushy stool- so depending on how long you are gone it might be better to wait until you are back so your petsitter does not have to deal with mushy stool or give bunny butt baths.

My adult bunnies weight about 5.5 lbs (Mini Lops) and they only get 2 tablespoons of pellets a day (split between am and pm)- and they do great.  They eat more hay because of that- and if you can find a bay of good quality grass horse hay- that is a cheap source of hay.  So I have decreased costs by giving less pellets, giving recommended veggies amount and unlimited hay.

well we have a horse so hays not an issue. the reason i was going to increase it is because i normally feed pellets like you in day and night but they are only coming once a day so i thought i should put more pellets encase they run out of food but they always have hay left in the morning so i think they will still have hay.

I wouldn’t feed too many more pellets if they are not used to it. If they get sick when you’re gone, this is going to be a big problem. It’ll be better that they have fewer pellets and just have to settle for hay.

Is it that they are going to get their day and night portion at the same time while you are away? You could get the pet sitter to give a little in a bowl and the rest scattered in their hay. That way it’ll slow them done in eating them as they have to forage for it. Or you could just get them to give one serve that is slightly more than their normal morning amount.
