I have been pruning my fruit trees and giving Tansy a few of the twigs.

She really loves them!  So far the thin plum twigs are her favorite, but she also likes the bigger, thicker peach branches too.

Just thought I’d mention to you that peach twigs are on the toxic plants list for rabbits. Rabbits do love twigs but make sure to look up if they are safe beforehand.

I looked it up –  they lose their toxicity if they are dried for a month or more.  The peach twigs were cut over a year ago.  I was saving them to use for a bbq.

Correct. It never hurts to point this out.

I had the same thought as Petzy. From your post it sounded like you had JUST pruned the trees and given the bun the twigs right away. I’m glad they were dried out first and bun likes it!

Hey.. Newton since a baby luved to chew on the Calilily twigs.. in the fall after they dried out and just broke off, I saved them all. Wooden like twigs.. dried out. I just got a bunch more from the garden today. Think that is safe.. He doesn’t like any of the store bought twigs..
He really goes nuts over a piece of Bananna and Graham Craker. What do you think?

I am not sure I would offer lily twigs.  Lilies are known for thier toxicity in dogs and cats when they eat the plant itself.  Unless you can find otherwise that drying makes them nontoxic- I would NOT give them and a find another safer twig/wood to offer.

Graham crackers are high in sugar and processed grain- I would not offer these as a treat.  I would stick with the banana in small amount and try another fruit.  I buy dried fruit like Craisins for my bunnies so I can always have some on hand- they do not go bad as quicky as regular fruit.  And for “cookies” Oxbow and American Pet Diner make some rabbit specific cookies that are OK for giving as a treat.

Just to ask, does anyone know if copper beach branches are safe? I have one in my back yard and I am feeling left our not being able to give my bunnies twigs!
Also are Chestnut branches OK, and I think Maple wood is poisonous right?

Again, too much carbs/sugar. Don’t let him con you into giving him some.  Even dried fruits are high in sugar. If you feed them only 1-2 small amounts. Or  cut into really small pieces and offer some of those – he might think he’s getting lots that way. Does Newton get hay? Even some varieties of hay can be a treat for them, or herbs as they are packed with flavour.

Always has hay.. Timothy.. I bought those Alfalfa Cubes and he wont touch him.. I bought the yogurt drops.. he likes the orange ones but will not eat the Blue Berry and Starwberry ones.. tired of spending money and bags sitting here..
He likes cereals.. like Krispix & Shreeded Wheat. 2 of those a day can’t hurt?

They can. Don’t give them to him. Get rid of the yogurt drops too. If anything, try dried fruit. My buns love raisins and dried papaya.
