We just adopted a new bunny in the wake of 500 bunnies being rescued by the Humane Society from a Hoarding Situation here in Edmonton.

The bunny we ended up adopting wasn’t actually one of the bunnies from that situation but we knew we were getting another so we decided to go for it.

The shelter is totally overrun, so they still do all the adoption interview but with some with health problems we didn’t feel comfortable bringing Gizmo in there, Plus she gets really stressed easily.

Dudley is a very young lionhead, not yet fixed (he was 8 weeks when we adopted him) and gizmo has had a fairly good reaction to him.

They share a room, there are on either end in their own xpens, they both tolerate each other and only get somewhat territorial when they each have their own running time. For the most part they ignore each other unless one tries to steal food through the bars of the cage. Gizmo has been very aggressive to another bunny in the past but with dudley she’s mostly coy, she will binky and poop outside his cage but otherwise she leaves him alone. Dudley will go to her cage to inspect her and that’s the only time she gets somewhat territorial but mostly he starts it, he will start a few little squabbles but no real nipping or fur pulling. mostly hay stealing.

We feel pretty confident it will be a fairly easy bond with them but aren’t going to really put them together (both uncaged) until after he has been neutered.

For reference, this was the hoarding situation you were referring to.

Congratulations on your new bunny! Can’t wait to see pictures.

That’s really such a shame about that situation too – that house looked like it could have been really nice. I feel sad for the rabbits but really my question is, how can people live like this!

My bunnies were like that at first. Lydia was not a fan of a new bun in the house but now she LOVES him. They aren’t completely bonded but they’re getting there. She sleeps by his cage every night. We just gotta get passed Phils frisky-ness. Good luck!

Update: Bunnies are now living together in our bunny room, they don’t groom each other a ton but they do have fun playing with each other and they never stray too far from the other.

This is a Video of their first “date”! It was too cute not to upload!

No wonder you were confident. They were very wel behaved on the 1st date. That was very cute!
