Bindi has been nibbling on my Diet Coke box this evening and I was wondering if anyone knew if this was a safe chew toy or a no-no.  It’s the “suitcase” size and she keeps hiding in it and generally having fun with it, so I thought I’d check.  I will take it away from her for now until I know.  Thanks a lot!

          It’s fine.

The only problem it might cause was if she was actually ingesting all that cardboard.  But as long as you see most of the nibbly-bits on the floor then it’s just fine.  Sounds like she’s having fun.  Pepper likes boxes too.

I agree with Wendyzski…If she’s just nibbling on it,  and mostly playing with it, then it’s not much of a concern, but she does like chewing on it….then If you can peel off some of inked facing, that would be ideal. Newspaper print and phone books are normally okay because the inks that are used are soy based (though you have to check with your local paper about/phone book printer about that). Magazines are not recommended just because of how much ink they do use, but I honestly don’t know what kind and how much ink is really on these boxes.

I have used soda boxes as well for my bunnies to play in. I didn’t peel off the first inked layer, but my bunnies didn’t chew much on it.

Thank you, Wendy and BB.  I’ve been watching her closely with the DC box and she mainly likes crawling in it and tossing it around (it’s rather large, but my little girl feels like she can move mountains).  She nibbles a little, but not eating it so now she has another new toy.  Thanks for your help.

I love these kinds of things. It’s not costing you anything (other than the cost of the product which you would have purchased anyways) and in a few days, you can cut it up for recycling and start fresh with something else. The glossy cardboard isn’t the greatest if she’s eating it, but as long as it’s mostly just a hidey house, I say go for it.

Yeah, she just pushes it around and crawls inside and today I put in an extra exit hole and she is zooming in and out of it.  Thanks!
