So everything between Lydia and Phil was going great until last night when Phil got extremely humpy.  I’m not sure what to do.  Lydia lets him do it but I push him off after awhile because I don’t want her to get annoyed and bite him.  Also he’ll mount her anywhere.  Her face, her sides her backside.  I know not to let him to it on the face and I always take him right off and tell him now.  It seems like no matter how much I tell him no as soo as I let go of him he runs straight for her again.  I’m not sure what I should do about him.  Should I use a squirt bottle to help him understand that Its not okay? Lydia has bit him once already for the altercation and he still proceeds to mount her any chance he gets.  Things were going so well but now I fear that Lydia won’t like him because he keeps mounting her.  what should I do with Phil?

Are the two rabbits in a small area where this is happening? I would check Phil by taking him off Lydia if the humpiness goes frantic. I would introduce a stunt double with them that you infuse with Lydia’s scent. Rub some of her fur on the stunt double and allow Phil to hump that. You can take him off Lydia and place him on the stunt double. It may just be that he is overexcited with having this new rabbit there, he should calm down over time. Use the stunt double to prevent him from mounting Lydia to the point where she will turn on him.

Yeah they are in the bathtub when this is happening. Should I also leave the stunt double in his cage too?

If he is crazy humpy in the small area like the bathtub, he is likely to be going to chase her in a larger area. For the first week leave the Stunt Double only with HER in this case; to accumulate as much of her scent as possible. Do not leave it with him yet because you want it to be a special thing to use during the sessions only when he gets over-humpy. The Double should be the size of a bunny or bigger. Once the Double has absorbed much of Lydia’s scent you might try leaving it with him, at times, too.

okay. Should I make the sessions shorter as well?

It depends. He can only hump for so long, you may find that he calms down if he goes for humping the Double. Then you could have a long session. See if he takes to humping the Stunt Double, make sure it smells like Lydia.

We had a session today and he didn’t get frisky with Lydia at all. But he is really intrested with the inside of her ears…he grooms and licks them like crazy and lydias not a fan of this. normal?

Some bunnies like to groom more specific spots. With my trio, Davey likes to groom the eyes, Dex likes to groom the ears (the inside like Phil), and Delilah is the queen so she is the pampered one! After a while the grooming became more spread out, all over grooming, instead of a specific spot. If you can tell the licking is getting to be too much for Lydia, you can move her ear or his nose, or pet both of them to break the licking. It may just be his ‘style’ of grooming.

oh good! He is still kinda rough because he’s new to the whole grooming thing but at least he’s normal!
