So Lydia and Phil had a session in the bathtub this morning and everything went REALLY well. The only problem is they both want to be groomed and neither of them will do so.   They just shove there noses down and kinda mash their faces.  That wasn’t a problem at first but now Phil (very gently) nips Lydia.  Well since Lydia has never been around other bunnies shes not used to this and she jumps and bites back.  Other than these mistakes they are doing well. Should I try and get Lydia to groom Phil? Or tell Phil no?  Should I put applesauce on both their heads?

I just don’t wanna take steps backwards because neither of them will give in to grooming. :/

I would try some applesauce, or bananas or raisins. They are touching and being in the same area with eachother relatively peacfully, sometyimes grroming comes with time. With mine I tried the banana, and raisin on their heads, it worked. There was really no grooming among my trio during bonding. It wasn’t until their cementing phase that they actually started willingly grooming.

Okay I will try applesauce! I know that grooming isnt always necessary but Phil automatically rams his head to hers and then she does the same and he nips. Its their only interaction right now and its not ending well :/ ha.

If he tries to nip, give him a loud ‘no!’. He is allowed to present himself to be groomed, he’s just not allowed to be mean about it! When this happends you could give them both pets at the same time, rubbing their ears together (scent transfer). You could even gently push their heads to the ground to get them to relax some while they are both waiting to be groomed by the other. This is a dominant move on your part.

Okay thats what I’ve been doing. Poor Lydia just gets really scared when he does it. Plus, she’s the dominant one and I think she assumes that she should be groomed first. haha :p

Well of course queen Lydia needs to be taken care of first, before Phil gets to make any demands!

He’s just getting ahead of himself! I gotta get her to put her walls down too. Geez this bunny bonding really is tough! haha

Haha it definitely is! It is a learning experience. I think though that bonding your bunnies makes you closer to them. You know how they move, almost what they are thinking sometimes!
