  Hey guys,
  
  Some of you may remember me. Probably not. But anyways, one of my rabbits, Thomas, had a really bad eye infection that turned into a huge ulcer. After months of trying different medicines and care, we finally managed to get rid of it. (Mind you, he’s left with a huge scar, but that’s okay. At least his eye was finally better)
  
  But then, a couple of weeks ago, I came home and found it red and puffy again. I just cleaned it out and put some eye drops (not medicine, just something the vet told us to buy to keep his eye lubricated) and it got better in a few days. It’s been good since then.
  
  Now, yesterday, his eye was horribly red and puffy, and even had the pus-like material on it again. It’s like how the original infection was like. I don’t know if I should do what I did recently, and hope it gets better again, or go to the vet again… (The last time really sucked me dry, but I’m willing to do it again, of course) But should I just keep it clean for now and if not better in a few days, take him again?
  
  Also, I don’t know why that same eye keeps getting infected. That’s the third time now. Is this something that’s gonna be chronic because of his original infection? Is it the scar tissue that bugs him and he scratches it, and thus making it infected again? Or what?
  
  =( It’s just so horrible. I hate for him to be like this, and I can tell it must hurt him, or at least really really irrirate him, cause he keeps trying to open his eye but immediately shuts it. =(

  No, that’s his brother, Dylan. My super-healthy bunny has decided it’s his turn now to take all the attention after years of dental problems with the other one. >.>

  I would take him to the vet again. I would ask the vet about dental problems and a possible culture as well. I don’t think you want to take any kind of chance with his eyes – you know they hurt and your vet may need to be much more aggressive for treatment this time.

  We used some pretty aggressive treatment to treat the original infection, and it took us months to clear it out. My inclination is to go… I mean, maybe it won’t be as bad if we start right away…
  
  He took a good look at his teeth the first time and said they’re not the problem.
  
  Time to make an appointment. Hopefully the vet will be available tomorrow…

  Keep us updated! I say don’t wait – maybe the second time is going to clear up the infection. I know how painful an eye infection can be. At least it’s not a new problem and your vet can now explore new options.

  Could it be something that’s gonna be chronic from now on, though? =( Or maybe the original one wasn’t completely cleared…? (I’ll ask the vet these things of course, I’m just wondering)
  
  Could it be some sort of allergen that’s irritating him? Or would that then bug both of his eyes…? Could his scarred eye make him more vulnerable? He likes to toss his hay around, and I’m worried it’s maybe some of the hay dust that’s bugging him. =/

  I wouldn’t wait-it would probably be easier the earlier on it’s caught-might be harder if you wait-in fact very likely. If it were an irritant it would likely be both eyes-so I doubt that, I’d go see the vet as soon as possible. Keep us posted!

  Okay, so I have an update from the vet…
  
  So he has yet another ulcer. But this one’s not deep like the other one, it’s only superficial. But apparently he’s developed a new thing: a corneal edema? I think it was (fluid under the eye.)
  
  He’s give me a list of three things for him. An antibiotic, something called muro128?? (he told us to get it at the pharmacy) and something for the pain. We’re seeing him again a week from now.
  
  He also said that, considering last time, Thomas seems to have a really weak regenerative skills. So he wants to try something out next time. Apparently he wants to collect some blood from other patients of his and separate the serum from the blood and apparently the protein in this will help the tissue heal faster.

  Hope what the vet prescribed helps! My bun had ulcers in her eyes from playing with the blinds.. she always let them smack her in the face, with her eyes open. So… no more blinds for her! I had to do eye drops for each eye for 2 weeks, every 6 hours.. wasn’t any fun. But its not as bad as what your bun has by the sounds of it, poor thing! *snuggles*

  Sounds like you caught it early this time. I’m wondering if the infection is in his system and never really cleared out, so another treatment is definitely going to help.
  That other suggestion sounds like an interesting innovation. Is it new? Is it something that you might try for him and be considered a test patient, so not as expensive if he’s going to study the results?

  His eye is looking way better today. =)
  
  I’m not sure. It looked great for over a month, before it came back. It is possible it was never fully cleared out. =(
  
  I have no idea. He said it depends if he even gets enough blood by the time of the next appointment, so he didn’t give me too many details. Lots of questions piling up, though, if we go by that route!
