› Forum › HABITATS AND TOYS › I ordered my new indoor rabbit condo!
I went and had a meeting with a guy in melbourne who builds them and got my quote. I accepted it and well it is going to be built in the next two weeks! To help keep the costs down i am doing all the painting/staining/lining but the main frame and everything else will be done y him. I am very very excited! *insert AVs happy dance* it is going to be about twice the size of their current condo and will make my life easier for clean up.
Awesome! I can’t wait to see pictures of your 2 enjoying it!!
Linitini – I was naughty I went with a 4 rabbit cage so that they would have more room, yes that is the reasons so that my 2 will have more room, not so I could get more in the future…. nope just for my two… well that is my story and I am sticking to it!
You aren’t staining the wood for rabbits are you? Is it where they couldnt chew it?
no, the inside will be lined with lino the outside is getting a face lift with either paint or stain no sure which, and either way it will be 110% dry before the rabbits go anywhere near it!
Let it dry a minimum 24 hours before putting bunnies in it, longer if the paint or stain is a stinkier variety… paint may look dry on the outside, but can still be wet under the surface. Fumes can stick around for awhile too. May want to have it in a well ventilated room for awhile… Better safe than sorry ![]()
Yeah planning on that. I have birds in the room so have to be really really careful. I have on under roof outdoor back patio that it will be in for at least a week to be on the safe side.
I just don’t know. Even if it’s dry it’s often poisonous.Being dry does not make it safe-bunnies chew and eat wood and the only safe wood is untreated unpainted wood! (only certain types of wood yes-but they HAVE to be untreated and unpainted)
Unless you sitting it outside in the sun and snow, and expecting it to look fancy-why paint or stain? Just leave it bare so its for sure safe

The outside that they are not going to be allowed to get to will be stained or painted and I am using the pet friendly stuff that i can buy out here. The inside that they can get to will be lined with lino.
OK Sooo, when is this coming so that we can see pics, hehe, I have been watching this thread waiting for pics!
I was planning on picking it up next weekend but as it is easter it might have to wait till the weekend after! I want it now!
I order my new rabbit hutch from this lady and that was fine we worked out what it was going to be etc… All was fine and I was $580 poorer.
I was suppose to pick it up the weekend after easter.
I got a call yesterday saying that due to the size that it had to be built outside and was now discolouring in the the sun. I then said I would pick it up earlier if needed and we worked out that Easter Monday would be good.
I also have since paid them $400, $200 as a deposit and $200 as a installment with the remaining $180 due on delivery.
Now she is calling me saying “Oh did you want X?” I said well yes we agreed on that but she claims that it will be extra, so now I am not getting wheels, i am not getting the pine inserts and I am not getting the mozzie netting. If she calls me again and removed something else that I wanted from it them I am going to refuse to pay and ask for a refund! GRRRRRRRR
Thus why I always get stuff like that in writing… makes it so they can’t BS about it.
That is a lot of money. What does this condo look like? Is this a reputable company, b/c it sounds like they’re screwing with you.
i built a 3-story condo on my own ( and with my dad) and only cost about 180 (well it would have cost that much but it was cheaper cuz we already had some of the supplies) but $580 that is ridicules.
Mocha, she has to pay for the labor involved in building the cage too, which is a lot considering the cage is big enough for 4 rabbits.
It’s too bad you didn’t write up a contract with them so they can’t keep tacking on added charges. Jerks.
Ok it came and it is HUGE! There are a few design issues with it, eg things not to spec etc… and I had to pay extra for the wheels in the end which took it to over $600 but it is soooooo cool and I love it and I have to work out how it will fit in the room as it is a little bigger then I thought it was going to be but it is sooooooooooooo cool! I need to do pictures but I need to finish off the design part of it and set it all up and then you get pictures but OH MY GOD IT IS HUGE!
We have to WAIT for pics?!!? NO fair!!!!!! I want some before and after pics!
Hey no fair, you get to see it and we don’t! POST PICS SOON!

*Poke*Poke*Poke*Poke*Poke*Poke*Poke*Poke*Poke*Poke*Poke*Poke*
Ok so here it is it’s not finished I have to keep doing the staining and also line the inside as well as put the grate over the hay slot on the inside.

Awesome! That hay slot is nifty too. They’re going to go nuts exploring it! I really like the individual opening doors and the little privacy loft at the top.
Nice! And the dog is like.. “I want one
*
I really had to push for the doors, for me it was a saftey thing, if I am cleaning the bottom level I don’t want to have to worry about them jumping out of top.
Well, its a nice condo
Although I have to say.. for the price you paid, they should have stained it for you!
Nope that was going to cost more so i decided that I would do that and also they wanted to stain it black and I did not want it that dark
Yeah I suppose. Better to have it how you like it ![]()
Wow. I’m jealous! Good thing my bunnies can’t see that!
so i am confused how much did you pay all together for every thing?
I don’t think that price is out of line at all. It looks even more well done then my cage, and considering the craftsmenship, I bet her materials were over 250$ and then having to pay the guy around 300 for maybe 8 hours of work…. I mean its hand crafted and takes exact measurement and skillful cutting, not to mention how careful you have to be with screws to not split the wood. I think you did great Angelicvampyre. It’s a beautiful cage to have in your home. You will always have to expect to pay a lot for custom hand made things…a robot isn’t going to make you an awesome bunny cage like this. I can’t wait to hear how your bunnies like it! Please take lots of photos for us!
Awesome! I love it! Now I am jealous!
That is amazing! I want one now!
wow that just sounds expensive cuz mine only cost about 100 dollars or somthing.
NICE!! Another one to add to the Great Habitats sections — Can I post this photos there?
Yeah you can BinkyBunny or you can wait till it is 100% finished and the bunnies moved in, I finished the staining last night and I am going to hopefully get the flooring and sides covered over the weekend so they can move in.
