Tomatoes, seems to be the only thing I can can a ton of and really makes the diff in the cost of the other stuff

I am trying a mesclun mix for Mellow, carrots, parsley, tomatoes, and giant marconi peppers. Oh, and zucchini. I am in Ohio, so I have a long time to wait still. I might cover part of the garden with hoops and plastic and start the mesclun now, but there is still some snow here.

I’m in an apartment, so I’ll just be growing spider webs. lol

Repeats from last year  – rainbow carrots (more and with a deeper container), misc lettuces and mesclun greens (sow thinner), marigolds and whatever herbs survived wintering over (mints, sage, lemon thyme, rosemary, lemon balm)

New additions – sugar snap peas, radishes, catnip, marjoram

Not trying again – spinach (too woody), parsely (has DEEP roots), beans and luffa squash (squirrels got them)

I do railing boxes and containers on my deck which has a south and east exposure.  I also learned last year to not even START any seedlings until mid-April (even in a window there isn’t enough light) and not plant outside until mid-may (Our frost-free safe day is May 15th around here).  I’ve even started saving up nice dry clean bunpoops for fertilizer – I layer it in about halfway down when I fill my boxes for the season.

I’ve got my indoor greenhouse thing set up, will be getting the first batch of flower seedlings started possibly today. I’ll be planting a variety of flowers, and then for the veggie garden starting seedlings for: tomatoes, peppers, leeks, corn, pumpkins, butternut squash, cucumbers, cauliflower if I can find some seeds, Bok Choy, and then sown directly in the garden will be the romaine, carrots, onions and/or garlic, watercress. I’ve got an herb garden inside already that I need to thin out and probably do a separate pot for some parsely.

I want a garden! I can’t wait til we have a house of our own and can plant some veggies. Otto hates everything but lettuce, but DH and I love our veggies and would eat it all. I would plant broccoli, brussel sprouts, lettuce, maybe squash? So many yummy things.

I kind of want to get some pots and do herbs. I have the seeds already, and even if Otto won’t eat them it would be great to have parsley, basil, and thyme to add to my cooking. I never have them on hand when I need them.

The only plants we have are a Norfolk Pine and Giant Sequoia (which is about 5″ tall) in pots. They’re living inside for the winter, but I can’t wait until it’s warm enough to put them back out. They like it outside 🙂

Spidey, how big are those things? Would it be possible to grow larger veggies? I guess I’d rather grow big veggies outside, but I can definitely do herbs inside very easily with just pots. I’m just bad about watering them 😛 Our house is nice and sunny though – perfect for growing things.

it would be best for herbs, you couldn’t grow tomatoes in them LOL

I can only do container gardening – I have tons of gorgeous containers but no plants in them. I think I’ll try again this year some stuff – I usually just do flowers but maybe I’ll try some mint in a container since I know you cannot kill mint and my rabbits do love mint.

Last summer I planted some herbs and they never came up.   Guess I started too late.  This year the parsley  and stuff I planted last year have decided to come up.      lol…  Hey better late than never eh? 

Now to keep hubbys hands out of my pots they will be ok.   I got basil oregano   parsley and i think cilantro.    I had blue fescue found at home depot or lowes.    A few of them came up last year but not enuf to get excited about.  Like what 5 sprigs.

Mints are pretty easy and yummy too.  I have 3 in a large bowl over-wintering in the basement and look forward to another summer of them going to tasty war with wach other!  In addition to feeding them to Pepper I made homemade mint syrup which was awesome with soda water on a hot summer day. 

I tend to not have a lot of luck with seeds, but I am kind of new at all of this – last year was my first real garden.  Some things I start from seed and others I buy seedlings at a garden center down the street.  I’m lucky to have them nearby – they know what kinds of things will grow well in this area.

As far as herbs go, I’ve always had a lot of luck with cilantro. Both times I’ve planted herbs I’ve included some cilantro (not sure why, I can’t stand the stuff) and it has taken over all the other herbs. It looks so much like parsley that I almost grabbed a handful and threw it into pasta! Ick. So yeah, if you want something easy for your buns, that’s what I would recommend.

I’m so pumped for this year!! Last year I didn’t do well-it was a very late thaw (Several weeks after May long weekend -which is the standard to start the garden) and very droughty -The only stuff that made it was what I bought as seedlings-no seeds came up.

But this year-we are having April weather in March so I’m totally pumped-it’s cooler today and the next few days but it’s been hitting high’s of 10 which is totally unheard of here in March. I’m hoping to get planing beginning of May which is probably 5 weeks early then last year   THANK YOU El Nino!! 

For the bunnies I plant strawberries, Kale, Romaine, Mint, Basil, Carrots, Parsley, Nastarium and Marigolds-lets hope they all work out this year Luckily my mom does a great garden (her thumb is so green she’s all set for st. patricks day lol) and I have established raspberries in the yard So even if I strike out (last year wasn’t great lol) I’ll still have bunny food

me and my mom have major green thumbs, green everything. literally. it impossible to kill anything. even if we try. dont ask.
this year im planting whatever seeds i can find that the buns will enjoy. (when they grow of course)
normally we plant them and forget them. i cant imagine what they would look like if we actually looked after them. :S there was 5 feet of snow on the ground at one point and out plants are still pretty green…

Oh boy… I can’t grow anything! Wish I could, but I don’t have a garden and the indoor potted plants never worked out
