Does anyone know if generic ‘hardwood’ is safe for bunnies?  I wanted to make Tashi a toy he could smell by putting a small piece of dried apple in one of the old-style (no spring) clothes pins.  The package simply says ‘unfinished hardwood’.  Is this likely to be OK?

        Thanks.

The fact that it says unfinished is better, but that doesn’t mean it’s untreated. I would stay away from anything that doesn’t specify exactly what wood it is, since some are harmful to bunnies. Avoid treated Pine and Cedar. Untreated Pine is OK, and Aspen is better.”

A clothespin is very tempting as a toy. I just googled wooden clothespins, (without the spring) and one said generic, but another went into detail and said it was birch. I would suggest looking up the manufacturer on the package on line and see if they say what kind of wood anywhere on their website. You can even email them and ask if it’s untreated, and what wood is it?
