So does anyone else use Kongs for their buns? I just decided to buy one for Loki to see if she would use it.  I put yogurt drops (made for rabbits) in hers and she rolls it and throws it around and has to work at getting the treats out! She LOVES it!

If you dont know what a Kong is, its a dog toy used for dogs that love to chew.

This is the one I bought for Loki:

just wondering if anyone else uses these! I highly recommend!

Yogurt drops are actually not good for rabbits. You could put papaya in there though. Zinnia has one but I’ve never put anything in it, she just likes to fling it around. :0)

Anything with dairy or wheat/grains in it is bad for bunnies – they’re not made to digest dairy.

I have a plastic cat treat dispenser ball for Leroy, and he loves it! The kong is a good idea, but because it’s rubber it’s probably very tempting to some bunnies to nom on… so keep an eye on her and make sure she doesn’t eat any of the rubber.

Most pet treats are designed to be colorful and look good to us humans, not made to be actually good for the pets. It sucks

Yea I think that the kong is fine! I mean I have a dog who was not able to destroy the kong – so I doubt a little bunny could do much.

But the yogurt drops are sadly bad for bunnies you could put some herbs in there or some dried fruit or fresh fruit or….. pellets. If its a really small kong then maybe you could put a big piece of fruit in it – wedge it in there so it is stuck in there and your bunny has to gnaw at the fruit inside through the little hole in the kong. That might work.

but i just read in a post earlier that fruit dried or fresh isnt overly good for them either cause of the suguar content? or is it more for moderation that was being discussed? oh, being new to this bunny slave is a lot of work!! lol but i love the learning of new things EVERYDAY

Most fruits are fine in moderation. You definitely don’t want to over do it. Always try out a new fruit/treat/veggie in small doses, and only try one new item at a time, to see how bunnies react. No more than one new item per week. Its just like it is for people.. most things are fine in moderation.

Limited sugar is okay for most buns, dairy is not good for buns in any amount. What many of us will do too is get the woven grass balls and stuff them with hay. If you can find any kind of toys to encourage more hay consumption, that is always a win-win!

you should try small ammount of banana…its the only bait my bun goes for when i try to get her back in her cage ( she refuses to be picked up lol) I love the kong idea but my bun would try to eat it for sure!

She does try to eat it! haha but she has had no luck. They sell extreme kongs, which are black in color and they are for extreme chewers (dogs) and there is no way a rabbit could chew through it…I have seen dobermans that have torn up and chewed bathroom floors up, and they cant chew through the extreme kong. But Loki LOVES her kong, she throws it all over to try and get the treats out! And I have tbeen putting sweet green and red pepper pieces in there for her so its healthy now!

I agree that Kongs stand up to use by dogs relatively well, but rabbits’ razor teeth can bite pieces out of Kongs and other rubber toys very easily. A rabbit may ingest these which is a health hazard. One of my rabbits has chewed up the edge of a ceramic bowl and rubber is no big challenge for him either. It is not as much a question of whether they can do it, as it is a question of whether they choose to do it. Kongs aren’t safe for bunnies.
