Can anyone tell me how long tubes of probiotics are good for once you’ve started using them? I have 2 half tubes Hershey was taking, one for work and one for home. They never touched her or her stuff, I’d squirt it on a spoon and mix it in her applesauce. I always washed my hands extremely well when going from Hershey to the others.

I was going to keep them incase one of the others needed them but I don’t know how long they’re good for. Or if it’s something the other guys could take everynow and then. Hershey had it every day because of taking Baytril.

I’m assuming we’re talking about Benebac, Kathy? When I got some this last week for Fiver I wasn’t sure about the dosage, so the first day I put half in his food and the next day put in the other half, keeping it refrigerated. (I was told afterward he was to have the whole tube at once.) He ate both but I think the second dose was a little less effective, judging by his eating and eliminating habits afterwards…however I don’t know if it directly related to the Benebac. He also seemed to have a little poopy butt that day.

I know the dried probiotics can last a day or so, but I don’t think even it can stay fresh much longer than that once you open the capsule.
I think that, like with Pedialyte, it probably isn’t much good long after opening. So if you have an open ones, they might be better thrown out. Better safe than sorry, with how sensitive bunny tummies are.

I was curious too if probiotics/Benebac is good to give bunnies on a regular basis whether there’s bowel trouble or not, maybe once a week, just to keep those nice gut floras happy? Especially for bunnies who don’t get as much exercise as they should, like mine. It’s made a world of difference for Fiver.

If it’s Benebac there is an expiration date on the tube.
