I was cleaning Jolene’s eyes today since she tends to get little sleep crusties in the front corners. I picked off a particularly hard eye booger and it left a tiny bleeding spot! I felt really horrible, but she didn’t act as if I had hurt her. The wound is smaller than if I had tore off one of my cuticles.

I dabbed at it with a cloth but I think I want to try to clean it in case it gets infected. I have some povidone-iodine and q-tips. I also have some Neosporin, but I’m not sure if it has lidocaine in it. Would it say on the tube if it did?

Any suggestions? Am I going about this the right way?

Don’t feel bad. If it’s near the eye I would not put any kind of medication on it at all! Anything you put near the eye could creep into the actual eye area so you want to only use something that your vet recommends.

I think as long as you keep it clean it will be fine. Just watch it.

I agree. I also get the sleepies off of my bunny’s eyes. If it’s not coming easily you can either leave it for her to get off herself eventually or take a warm, damp tissue or cloth to moisten it first so it will come off more easily. Just keep the area clean, and don’t pick if it scabs a wee bit. She’ll be fine.

Thanks for the advice. Her eye stopped bleeding and she seems to be fine.
