Hello everyone! I’ve been lurking for some time now, though I have also posted a few times. I really like this forum and how it’s dedicated to house rabbit’s. I’m very new to bunny bonding, but I’ve read a lot of articles and even watched a movie on the topic. I also volunteer with a local rabbit rescue so I was able to get some great tips from them. I have two house bun’s, Dunkin and Amber. Dunkin is a handsome 1 year and 6 month old Neutered Himalayan who I adopted at age of 6 weeks. He was saved by a friend from being euthanized at a crowded shelter with his family. Amber is a beautiful 11 month old Spayed Lop Mix that I adopted when she was around 5 months old. She was part of a dumping situation, her mother was dumped into the cold snowy climate of Lake Tahoe, California when she was pregnant. Thankfully a nice lady took Amber’s mother in just in time for her to give birth! The rescue I volunteer with helped the lady out when she realized she couldn’t care for them properly, so that’s how I met and adopted Amber.

Now onto the bonding. It’s going well so far *knocks on wood* and I’m very hopeful. They’ve had three dates so far, their latest was on Valentine’s Day and went very well! It was adorable, they were the most affectionate I’ve seen so far. Cuddling, grooming, binkying, and Dunkin even flopped on his side a few times. The grooming was rough at times which I read is normal when they first start. The first date was in the bathtub, they did so well I moved them into the x-pen on the second. Sunday’s session was a little over an hour long with no fighting, just some humping from Amber. Their cages are also together, but still divided. When I feel confident enough that they have completely bonded I will be taking the divider out of their NIC cage making it a 2×6.

Here is a little something with video clips of the Sunday Valentine’s Day date. Can those more experienced in bunny bonding take a look and tell me how you think they are progressing? They have yet to show any kind of fighting, just some minor disagreements that are settled quickly.

Well I have a big smile on my face . What a lovely sight for you on valentines day! It’s early days in the bonding but things look to be very promising. I think just continue to put them together and extend that time. They appear to sort themselves out pretty well.

What a sweet pair. Bonding on Valentine’s day, how fitting. I say you are looking at being able to house them together very soon. Have they ever fought? What was the longest they spent together?

What a cute couple! Amber’s ears are so cute – one up, one down. Continued bonding vibes.

Petzy- Last year I tried bonding them too soon after Amber’s spay and they hated eachother. They would get into fur flying fights, though there was never any breaking of the skin. Since I’ve started again there has been no fur pulling or fighting, just some minor arguements.

Thanks for your comments jerseygirl and Sarita!

                Update:

Well even Dunkin and Amber’s relationship has it’s problems. I believe it was Wednesday when they had their 4th date. It may have been my fault though, because I really should be doing daily dates now. However, I’ve been having some personal problems and couldn’t get around to it. Anyway, so Wednesday there really wasn’t any grooming. Amber was much more assertive and really trying to show Dunkin she is boss in the relationship by humping him any time she bowed and he ignored her. She’s such a tease too! She would start grooming him a little then go to hump his head, which I’ve read is not good because Dunkin could bite her so I did squirt her with water. Thankfully all Dunkin did was sit there horrified. Still no fighting, which still makes me believe they will be able to fully bond. Amber was just frustrated that Dunkin wasn’t grooming her when she asked. Dunkin is going to have to make up his mind. Either step up or step down and let Amber be the princess she is at heart. Just makes what they did on Valentine’s Day even more special. I’m going to be doing daily dates now instead of letting a few days go by.
