So, I just moved Lilies cage and rearranged it the other day and now she decided she doens’t want to use the litter pan anymore. She usually uses it really well, but she’s not even peeing in it. Arg. I’m sure this topic has come up a million times and you pro’s will know what to do. Lemme know. Thanks ahead of time.

is she peeing in the spot where the litter pan used to be? is she peeing all over her cage or just in one particular area? u may need to move it to the place where she is peeing. some bunnies are picky and pick a certain spot to pee. if she has picked one corner she might pee in it regardless of a litter pan being there or not. sometimes we need to just go with what they want. it makes it a little easier.

or she might be marking her cage or be upset that it has been rearranged

I would put it back where it was – she’s probably protesting the new location.

Also, bunnies tend to pee in a back corner of their cage – where is the litter box placed? If it’s in a front corner (or not in a corner) that might be the reason.

I second the suggestion to move it back to where it was. She may also be protesting the new decor, and want a few other things moved. Definitely put the litter pan at the back and where she had it. also, check to see if she is more exposed, or in a slightly protected area. If the cage opened her up to be more exposed, she may not feel as safe in her pan now. Her version of privacy.

well, I moved her cage to the opposite side of the room. I did have a litter pan over there because I had two in the room. She insisted on going in that one. The new location is about a foot back. it’s up agains the wall now. I had a fish tank there before and her litter pan was previously between the wall and the tank. so, she was going where it was previously, but also a ton in front of her hopper. I moved the litter pan to where she was going and now she’s going in the corner. I don’t know what her deal is. She seems excited about the new location of her cage. She’s been really enjoying checking it out so, I don’t know why she won’t use the litter pan. I did wash it. could that be it?

It’s true that some bunnies don’t like their box to be too clean. Can you soak up the accidents with a paper towel and put them in the litter box? She might remember that’s where pee goes.

It is most likely that Lily has stopped using her litter box because you moved her cage around. I had this problem with my rabbit when I added a small exercise pen to his cage to fix this I closed off his original cage from the pen for a while and only let him go in there when I was supervising. Now he can go into the exercise pen when he pleases and he goes inn his litter box, so just give it time the problem should resolve itself.
