Bo’s neuter was sucessful, but my vet wants him confined to a cage for 10 -14 days.  His cage is big enough for him to move around and stretch out, it has his food and litter box in it and water, but that’s about it.  I feel really bad that we are keeping him in there, since he’s had run of the house since I got him.

Any suggestions on what I can do?  I live in a 1 bedroom and there isn’t really a ‘small room’ except the bathroom….

        Again, any suggestions?

I’m glad Bo’s neuter was successful. I guess I would let him run around after about 5 to 7 days for a short time with the run of the house. I think if he gets a limited amount of time outside his cage after 5 to 7 days and there is no problems with his incision or anything else you will be okay. Basically limit activity and no jumping onto things. He’ll be upset understandably but you have doctor’s orders :~)

I know it feels cruel – but it really is best for him in the short term, and I concur with Sarita – you can give him some limited out of cage time in about 5 days-

I felt really bad confining Coco after her Spay ( I rescued her from a situation where she had been caged for a good Year), but as soon as she got home and tried to jump, I about had a heart attack. Its a healing time for them, and they will appreciate the enforced down time.

Wow, 10 -14 days seems like a long time, especially for a boy! Mine was back out for short periods after 3 or 4 days and after 5, he was out his normal time. he would have hated being kept in his crate for that long!

I agree that while it seems like a long time I would infer to your vet always as they are they professionals.

I agree that 10-14 days seems a bit long for a male… I’m with the others when they say very limited activity for 5 days… and then small amounts of exercise after that. Do you have an xpen you can attach to the cage so he has a larger area but nowhere to jump onto? That would be my suggestion.

Thanks all, not sure what an xpen is but I did buy a bunch of those cube thingys, I can make something out of those.

An xpen is an exercise pen – it’s basically a pen (usually 4’x4′) that can be used for puppies, bunnies, etc. You can definitely make one of your own out of the NIC grids you bought in any size to fit your space. On this site, we generally just say xpen for any type of pen enclosure, whether it’s a purchased xpen or one made of NIC grids.

eta: Here’s an example of an xpen: http://www.petco.com/product/11368/…-Pens.aspx

Xpens (or NIC grid fences) are great to have on hand! You can use them to confine your bunny in a space… or open it up and put it around an area you don’t want the bunny getting into. Some people will fence in their entertainment center, for example.
