  Does anyone know what it means when a bunny licks their lips? I will groom Lily and she’ll lick her lips and then sometimes lick her paw. It’s really adorable. She usually does it when I scratch her ears.

  Just normal bunny behavior. You’ll usually see that rabbits always lick their paws after grooming themselves, but she may be expressing pleasure at being groomed. Will she lick you if you put your hand down in front of her?

  ya know, I’m not exactly sure if she would. I’ll try it. What would be the correct way to present your hand? I try not to put my hands right in front of her face.

  I haven’t had any luck with the hand placement. Mostly my bunnies just look at it like, “No treats in there…so?”
  My lionhead/palomino female is a born lip licker. She will lick after just about anything…especially after being at the water bowl or bottle or after eating and I’ve never seen such a busy tongue. She must’ve been an anteater in a past life. I would guess she just doesn’t want to miss anything yummy.
  
  My other two rabbits tend to lick their lips and then commence washing any time I’ve held them directly beforehand. I translate it as, “Ew…stinky human smell…gotta get it off!”

  Mine also licks her paw or the floor when I pet her or directly after I stop. There is also a licking reflex trigger point I think. I remember someone mentioning this here. It’s usually when you scratch their back around the tail area.

  Bunnies lick when you groom a certain part of them, kind of like a dog’s leg will shake if you scratch in a certain spot.

  After Cotton Boo would drink water he would lick and lick his lips and stuff. His cute little bunny tongue.
