Ava’s had a bit of a messy bum lately.  It was never 100% clean, but I always attributed the little bit that was messy to her being white and liking to sit in her soiled litter box.  For the last couple days, now, though, it is obviously much more than that.  She seems to be secreting an excess amount of… something (? I have no idea) from her vaginal area.  Poops look normal and are not runny.  What are the usually causes of this?  Should I be too worried?  We won’t be able to get her to the vets for the next couple days, as we’re having severe snow storms coming in, and my road is pretty much inoperable.

        thanks

That looks like pee. Has she been peeing elsewhere than her litter box? When they do this and sit in it, it indicates something is going on. Usually looking at urinary tract infection. Does it smell like pee?

Only thing I can think for you to do is try increase her fluids until you can get to a vet.   How has she been behaviour wise?

Have the previous messes been poop or pee?

I just remembered Ava was a stray. Did the vet rule out pregnancy?

I agree that looks like pee (well the first photo does anyway) The 2nd photo looks like a mix of pee and poo, but if the first photo is more accurate of what her whole bum looks like then it does look like dark pee.

Definite vet needs to be seen as soon as you can make your way onto the roads safely. In the meantime, you will need to try and rinse her bum so she doesn’t get urine scald. (keep these photos for the vet though!)

I am also curious as to what her behavior is like right now — is she peeing outside of the box, does she sit in her box for longer bouts of time.

              Thanks for the help, guys.

She is sitting in her box a bit, but she has to to get to her hay…? Should I try moving the box away from the hay? I clean the box daily, so its not like she’s sitting in a massive accumulation of it.

Behavior-wise, I haven’t noticed any differences, really. She’s still running around, begging for food, etc.

Would you mind explaining how I should rinse her? Should I wipe her with a wet towel? Also, it’s a possibility that we are going to be running low on water soon, as if we lose power b/c of the storm, we will also lose our water supply. Could I use baby wipes, then?

I would get her to a vet because I imagine that she has urine scald and a possible urinary tract infection. This is most likely the case when their fur gets like this, which it sounds like you are going to do once the snowmageddon passes your area :~)

I would use unscented baby wipes but they won’t get the area clean really when it’s this bad. But it may help some. Also you wouldn’t want to rinse her with the weather being so cold right now so the baby wipes will at least help her feel somewhat better until you can get her to the vet.
