Indy is getting his bits taken out tomorrow morning!
I read all the info from the rabbit.org site about the tips for after surgery, but does anyone else have any extra info?
I plan on bringing him home with extra pain meds, so that I know he will be comfy. He’ll be kept quiet and given lots of tlc. Any other tips? ![]()
I think he will need a get well present from the BB store. What do you think? :p
Moose votes for the willow cubes. They are Moosie-Approved.
And yay for no more boy bits! *waves pom poms*
Just limit his activity so he doesn’t over do it, I kept Monkey in her cage without anything to jump on or catch on her tummy just to be safe. And lots and lots of pets and attention and raisins.
picked out a willow cube and some more goodies!
Thanks for the tips ![]()
No jumping, so take out any platforms if you have some in his cage. I love that expression “getting his bits taken out”.
I once had a human relative who’d just had a vasectomy, and I said “you mean you got fixed?”
Favorite tip: to check how he’s healing and look for signs of infection, hold a hand mirror down low, then dangle a treat above his nose so he has to periscope up to get it, and look at his privates to make sure everything is ok. It’s easier than try to catch him and turn him over to check.
Let him rest.
oh, let us know how it goes!!!! My willie goes in this month too! I am sooo nervous. Good thinking on the platforms. I forget I DO have platforms in his pen and they go up to his bed. I will have to modify this somehow!!!!
I told myself not to cry like 1000 times when I dropped him off today. The vet tech took him from me and I couldn’t even finish the sentence, “Take good care o…..” *CRIES* I briskly walked out to not took too crazy. Nothing like some weirdo bunny owner breaking down because she thinks she won’t see her bun ever again. Then I lost it 2 more times in the car on the way home. I tried to tell myself it was the fumes from the truck in front of me making me tear up lol. I only had 4 hours of sleep last night because I let him stay out all night, was constantly being groomed…but I couldn’t sleep anyways. So let’s just say I’m sleep deprived and only partially crazy! I stopped off at a pet store and got him a chew for when he gets home, I don’t think my BB order will come till tomorrow or the next day. I’ll take down his ledge in his cage before he comes home. She said they will call me about 1:30pm after the procedure. The vets office even had a bunny that lives there apparently, he’s a cutie. So I think I found a pretty swell place to take my buns! Okay I am going to try to relax now, maybe take the dogs for a walk and keep my mind off Indy for now because I am so nervous! Thanks for the support guys!
About half of the animal owners out there tear up when leaving their pet behind, be it for boarding or surgery. Bunny people are no different than cat or dog or lizard people in this matter. Heck, even big, strong men like me get a little choked up when we have to leave our friends behind.
Hehe thanks Mark…my room is so empty now it feels so weird. I think I need to fall asleep now and wake up at 4:30 when he’s ready to come home lol!
Oh I know we are no different – my zoo here, I mean I will cry if my fish dies, no matter what the animal I love it to death!
Awww Lintini!
Here’s some ((((successful surgery and quick recovery)))) vibes for Indy! Let us know how he is when you pick him up!
He’ll do just fine. Someone named Indiana Jones can’t have anything happen at the vet
He must live on to face many many wild adventures! *pats Lindsey*
Aww thanks Lesley!! That made me smile big!! So true!! Lol they ask me, “and whats the name of your rabbit?” I sat there and I’m like okay great…well…*chuckles* “His name is Indiana Jones.” All the vet techs go “awwwwww” lol~!
They just called! He’s doing fine – ready to pick him up at 4:30! He’s sleepy, got a antibiotic injection and a pain injection!
Yay for Indy! I knew he’d do fine ![]()
Yeah! he’s ok! Lots of healing vibes for Indy!!! I cleaned out Mellow’s litter box really well before he came home. Other than that, good luck keeping hmi quiet for a few days; the boys heal so quickly.
that’s good. my bun was almost completely back to normal within 2 to 3 days. i am sure within a few days he will be back to normal
Yea his cage is cleaned up all nice…I’ve ditched the fleece and went back to newspaper on top of the coroplast, plus it’s way more fun to shred in the middle of the night! I’ve set up a nice towel for on top to lay on so he’s comfy and cleaning out the litter box well ![]()
Aw, yay for Indy!
Ahhh everyones cages are all pretty now – now to vacuum real fast before I have to leave to pick him up. I shouldn’t have done this in a sweater, all the shavings are stuck to me lol.
(((Indy))) Hope you have the boy home soon safe and sound.
Good to hear that he’s come through well!
Sorry I wasn’t in here sooner, but I can’t advise you any better than everyone else here already has. I too took out any shelving in Mimzy’s cage and made sure he didn’t exert himself too much at first. He recovered quickly though. The shock was dealt when I had to check ‘down unda’ for his sutures and realized HOLEYMOLEY…how did I MISS THOSE? 0_o
I always tear up when I leave my pets at the vet, and I know they take excellent care of them, but it always gets to me. My hubby took Mimzy in the morning of his dental and it’s a good thing because I would’ve been a wreck.
Yeah, the house gets SO quiet when even one furbaby is missing for any reason. I swear, Pip & Fiver must not communicate at all because I’ve never seen the two of them so silent as the day that Mimzy was in surgery all day.
We’re home. They said they couldn’t get him to eat at all or drink. I got home and reached into the cat carrier with a raisin and he enhaled half of it. I can’t get him to eat any pellets, papaya, alfalfa or timothy hay. No water either. They said if he doesn’t eat by tomorrow call them and take him back in. I think he will be okay though, he’s much comfier at home in his nice clean cage. My poor baby boy. They said he was a perfect gentlemen and was very very sweet. That’s my boy!
In other news…my dad doesn’t know about blossom and asked where his rubber mat in the garage went LOL (It’s under all the towels in Blossoms cage) I was like wow how did you know it wasn’t there anymore? “When I stepped off my motorcycle it wasn’t there.” Ooops!! Guess my dad does notice things!! When I first brought Bun home he didn’t know I had her for over a month…but yet he knows when a rubber mat has gone missing!
I’m so happy to get Indy done, I was EXTREMELY worried somehow he would mate with Blossom, I have both cages on lockdown but you know how rabbits are! I’m getting another form next week to get Bun done, then in about 5 months Blossom!
The doctor said the pain meds last for 3 days…I still really wanted metacam but they really didn’t insist on it. It was going to be for my peace even if it didn’t help Indy…I just want to do everything I can for him. I never thought I would love a rabbit so much.
Also..while he was gone I was cleaning my room up and vacuming good…I found 2 photos, very large ones – the size of binder paper of my grandmas macaws that she raised. I’ve must have taken them from their house when I was about 8 years old when they were moving to Hawaii. They are very beautiful photos. It’s weird how things of my grandma randomly pop up when I’m distressed. I still think she guided me into getting Indy
He’s eating some red leaf lettuce!! YAY!!!
don’t worry my bunny didn’t eat for 24 hours after his surgery. so don’t worry. just let him rest my bun just wanted to be left alone for awhile and sleep. if he hasn’t eaten in 24 hours just call your vet. the reason he probably isn’t eating is because he is sore. i know i wouldn’t want to eat if i was tired and sore.
that’s great! my bun probably didn’t eat because he ripped out his stitches and had to stay at the vet all night.
Aww…good to hear he’s home and eating at lest a little bit.
((((((((healing & Nomming vibes for Indy)))))))))))))))
i didnt know you where so worried about indy, i can totally understand though. Im extemly glad that hes doing ok and eating now. I wish him the best. Now you got me all wondering how it will go when i eventually get jack fixed, i wonder how ill handle it.
Guys can be such big babies about their pets… hehe. Just you wait ![]()
lol, all my pets have been shelter rescues, so they’ve all been fixed already. Ive never had to have my pet go under the knife yet *knocks on wood*. i just hope jack will be as good as indy when his time comes
Indy’s eating a lot, I’m not sure about pellets, but he’s eating parsley and lettuce fine, along with the raisins/papaya. I watered down the greens well so he would get some extra water. I haven’t heard him drinking from his bottle.
edit: lol yes I am awake at 4am watching him eat lettuce!
Yea Indy!

I hear that with my bad ear! ^_^ Boy does that sound familiar!
Hope you’re getting some rest now.
Continued healing, eating, drinking and hopefully good eliminating vibes for Indy! ((((((((((((((Indy))))))))))))))))
Note: Mimzy tends to drink less form his water bottle, not only right after surgery, but if I am upping his greens as well. They get more fluid in the lettuce I think than they do sipping out of the bottle. Maybe try putting a small crock down for him if you think he can manage it? That might encourage him to drink more. You may have to pick up a few spills, but it’ll be worth it to be sure he’s getting enough water.
