I am very new at pet rabbit ownership and now that my daughter is careing for two of them I just want to make sure we are doing everything right. So I amm neeing to know what not to give them as in food. Is it better to fed a completely fresh diet of should I continue with pellets as well and what kinds of treats are best to give them? what things should I avoid at all cost? I have other pets but the rabbits are much more different.

Hi Daniele!  This is the Binky Bunny diet page (found under Bunny Info Tab) https://www.binkybunny.com/BUNNYINFO/Diet/tabid/60/Default.aspx

It’s based on the House Rabbit Society’s feeding guidelines. That should get you started on coming up with the right diet for your rabbits.

In general, the diet should be grass hay, leafy green vegetables & limited pellets.  With any changes you want to make to your rabbits diet, it must be done gradually.  Sudden changes may upset the gut and they can become gravely ill very quickly. So it’s best to transistion them to the long term diet slowly.

          Whaat age are the rabbits?

Welcome! Definitely check out that link

Great treats are raisins and small peices of fruit

What type of bunnies and how old are they? That’s great of you to do research to help your daughter care for them

The  rabbits are about a year old one is blind she is a dwarf and the guardian is a lop eared. Mocha is always looking after cupcake (my duaghter named them).  I had a rabbit about 16 years ago but she was killed by a dog and I did not have her long enough to really get to undrestanding these sweet little animales.

I am concerned about cupcake the blind on she is very sweet and will let any thing or one touch her and has no sence of fear.

is it common for rabbits to be born blind?

How offten should take them to the vet?

                Hi,
                They sound very sweet.
I would also read through the House Rabbit Society’s website, http://www.rabbit.org, for good info. as well as lists of what’s harmful as well as good for your rabbits. You can also use their vet finder to locate exotics, ie. rabbit savvy, vets in your area.

Blindness is about as common as it is in humans I think, occasionally. It’s great that she has a guardian. that’s a wonderful thing bunnies do in their relationships. For good stories and info. on another blind rabbit here, Chuck (we all love Chuck and his buddy, Noot) go into some of the posts by forum leader KokaneeandKalhua. She has been through a lot of lifestyle work with Chuck, and he is doing great!

And we love to see pix of your rabbits.

Hi Daniel, If you are looking for bunny advice – you have found the right place!

That is great that Cupcake has Mocha as a guardian! Cute names! KokaneeandKalhua can tell you how Noot changed Chucks life!

Bad treats are things like yogurt drops, nuts and seeds. A raisin or a piece of fruit is a good treat!

My buns go to the Vet once a year – it costs about $75 for the two of them to get a check up.
