Hi again, I have this two year old cat that I took from my sister cause shes not the greatest with animals (i still love her though) and I can’t tell if she wants to eat it or is just curious.  To me she is loving, always under my feet but not sure with bunny.  She has no front claws.  How do you get them used to each other?  The cat is kinda playful but to me seems a little to interested in the bunny.   Any help?  Thank you much.

I thought there was more on this in FAQ’s but I can’t find anything just now. This article is from House Rabbit Society so hopefully that will help some. http://www.rabbit.org/journal/2-11/…bbits.html

I never did anything to introduce any of my cats to my bunnies. And never had any problems. And this summer, my parents were looking after one of my bunnies and they have three cats. The cats were quite intimidated at first and wanted to hide, but once they realised that the little bunny was harmless and just a strange being, they were just fine.

None of our cats have ever bothered to chase the bunnies – the reason is the size. It is not a small mouse that suddenly runs over the floor, and a rabbit is not a natural prey for a cat.

I checked that site out but not much advise on how to get them together.   I forgotten to pick up spray bottle but will tomarrow.  Peanut (cat) watches it from bed and then goes up to cage or run and sniffs him but will also put his long arm threw the bars to kind of lightly hit or touch it, think he wants to play (good or bad way not sure.)  He has no claws on front so he really cant do much damage with that behavior and not putting them together until I have a spray bottle.  This cat is not small, think it weighs fourteen pounds.  Bunny is only about two, maybe, guessing.  Thing is peanut is so lonely for a companion, he tries so hard to befriend other cats but none have been nice enough to let him (sister has other cats.)  Maybe bunny will let him but he is playful so who knows.

we have 5 cats. they are all pretty good with my buns. one of our cats loves my bunny Mocha he follows him around, he licks him he some times taps him on the head with his paw but its because he wants to play. we just got a kitten a few months ago and all she wants to do with the buns is play and she drives my bunny’s crazy but that’s just because shes a kitten.

i have 2 siamese cats, and they get along great with the bunnies… im not so sure if its because they dont care about the bunnies that much or if its because they think the bunnies are cats… ill show you what i mean

OMG MirBear! Your kitty looks just like my Mitzi! 0_0 She was my cat when I was ten or so, she passed away many years ago, but the dark color on your cat is just like hers! She was perfectly pointed and had a cream flank until I thought she needed a bath one day -I didn’t realize cats were self-cleaning- and dunked her in some water. Our vet told us afterwards that this tends to ‘tan’ the fur for some strange reason. I don’t know if I believe it anymore, but that was the explanation my mother gave me.
What a beautiful kitty! And wow, does she resemble the bunny or vice-versa! ^_^

I honestly don’t try to put my buns & cats together…it’s just too risky with the whole predator and prey thing. I have caught my cats poking at the bunnies when they thought I wasn’t looking. Although my youngest cat is scared of them for the most part, and leaves them mostly alone, but God forbid they get riled at each other some day and one attacks the other…it wouldn’t be pretty either way.

I love Siamese cats! We have a blue point Siamese, is that a Apple head Mirbear? It’s hard to find that breed now.

The only time my cat saw Indy she was thumped at and scared to death – not much help but I had to comment on Mirbear’s Honey

Nope, its not gonna work…I decided to just let bunny have the run of my room today with baby gate up and twice the cat has jumped it while I wasnt looking and went after it, not just play.  Oh well, not even going to attempt it now.  Didnt hurt bunny, bunny went under my bed.

That’s a shame, but don’t give up. You can teach dogs with strong hunting instincts not to touch the house rabbits, so you can as well with the cat.

Go for a book on clicker training cats – or even dogs, if you can’t find one for cats. These books often have really good training sessions on how to teach cats/dogs to live with other house pets.

Have you tried having the bunny in a scage and then place the cat outside? Then they can sniff each other at the own pace – make sure they both get treats and there is a good feeling. Do this a couple of times. If the cat does something, you don’t approve of, then remove it, but not scolding. It should associate the bunny with treats and good times, and not something bad.
