Briefing…getting lindt.
Buttons has always been an only bunny, and when I came on binky bunnies for the first time, I noticed most of you had pairs or trios. I didn’t take much notice of this until I saw buttons looking lonely. As I happened to walk past a pet store, I saw a ball of fuzz. And so i decided she was so adorably cute, we got her. here comes lindt! A little dwarf cashmere bunny!
isn’t that how it all starts…? you see that adorable little ball of fuzz… and the rest my dear.. is history. ![]()
Day 1.
I had Buttons and Lindt out in the garden, so at least they could get away from each other if need be. Buttons went up to see what this ball of fuzz was. Lindt was scared, proberly because of buttons’s size. When Buttons went up to Lindt and found out she was another rabbit, so her first reaction was to claim dominance. So as soon as buttons went into aggressive mode, Lindt ran away. after this buttons always gives me the innocent look. After Buttons got bored at chasing Lindt away and Lindt realised that Buttons wasn’t as friendly to her as she’d like, The both lay down away from each other.

Buttons lying down.
Their hutches are about 1.5m apart from each other and the can’t see each other as I did not want to put the Hutches opposite because that would trigger Buttons’s territorial mode.
Today, I decided to get Buttons and LIndt onto the couch on their bunny cushion (because my mum is paranoid about the bunnies peeing on the furniture, she made me put a board of wood and a bunny cushion down because Lindt is not yet fully litter-box trained. I had them on the cushion when Buttons started half-lying down. (the I’m melting! position.) Lindt looked abit lost and when I put Lindt next to her Buttons tryed to nip her but I put my hand on her nose so she couldn’t. Eventually I got them to ‘just snuggling’ and buttons went into sleepy mode, and I stopped patting her and she nibbled Lindt!
I don’t know if that would be considered grooming, but it’s better! we are getting somewhere!
I don’t know if the video will work but sorry for the badness of the camera, Its not my good camera!
How old is Lindt? Do you plan to get him neutered in the future? This would make for a more true and lasting bond between both your rabbits.
Out of curiosity – what Oz State are you in?
I wondered the same thing as Jersey – often young bunnies will get along with any adult until their hormones kick in. Then they can go nuts! So be prepared for them to lose some of their bond before you get Lindt speutered.
Another trick is to switch them from cage to cage each day and let them see each other when they’re caged. This helps them get used to the sight and smells of another bunny.
Otherwise it seems like you’re doing a pretty good job 🙂 I hope you keep us updated on their progress.
Oh sorry! Lindt is female.
Sorry i havnet been here in ages, had other comitments, (yeah thats right, a injured baby bird fell on my head…it did. really)
the bunnies are doing fine. I have proceeded to the ‘Sitting-Outside-And-Squirting-Buttons-With-The-Hose-When-She-Bites-lindt’ stage of madness and it doesn’t seem to be working. she does not bite lindt any more, but she aproches her and lindt runs away. atlest its not biting. we need more snuggles!
I love your fuzzy grey rabbit, a cashmere? I haven’t seen one before. Buttons has very pretty markings I love, too. What a nice pair they will make.
–I agree with Jersey that the true bonding happens after both rabbits have been neutered or spayed.
It is still very worthwhile to introduce these two at this time before Lindt’s hormones cause a falling-out between them. — When you say squirting with a hose, what exactly do you do? I actually wouldn’t recomment having them together in a big area loose but just continue with sessions like the one in your video on the couch. The reason for this is that you are in a pre-bonding stage as long as Lindt has not been spayed. You can’t know when her hormones will kick in and it would be a pity if they got to fighting. Then you’d have a harder time bonding them after the spay. There is a member on here who had her rabbits together before the fefmale was spayed and she ended up having to separate them and then rebond after the spay. Here is her thread https://www.binkybunny.com/FORUM/tabid/54/a…fault.aspx
WOW AMAZING AN UPDATE… sort of…
I was not really squirting squirting but buttons just approaches and then lindt hops away when she gets too close. shes probley scared of being bitten.
not suprised. poor little bunny. anyway. when buttons was having a snooze, lindt would come up, ears forward and head bobbing and all that. and then buttons would here get up, and approach her again. and lindt would run off like, you weren’t supposed to see me! kind of thing. its abit late now, so ill get them out later. as in tomorrow. I will have more time on here now are internets up agian
and birdie is off and healthy agian. I’m glad to see lindts more curious and buttons isn’t chasing her away all the time. sometimes, when lindt runs away buttons may get wound up or something because i have seen that she chases her when lindt is already running. we may have a couch session tomorrow.
yeah so have a nice day and see you later..
buttons in the court yard
(its not paved yet) ![]()
ps.
buttons has quite good moveability of her ears so i can tell when she is approchig and when she is killer-bun
Remember, Lindt isn’t hiding, he insisting upon grooms. Buttons is nipping him to say, “Nu-uh! Yer not top bun so stop asking for licks.”
Buttons got shots to day (poor bun!) so we’ll have a break. do want to be nipped on the sore spot!
“still” “plz hug me..”
no ones comming on any more…
not even me.
maybe im not ment to be a bunny owner…
I thought u were my friends..
lol we are!!
and i love the little caption thingys ![]()
Do you have any updates on how the bonding is going? Petzy gave you some really good advice, especially concerning getting Lindt spayed.
