their is this wierd cut on Mocha. i picked him up to put him in his cadge just now and felt this bump so i took him up for my mom to see and she was looking at it and it looked like their as this big chunk of skin that was baerly conected you could lift it up a little it was weird. to make you understand it a little better it looks like a sticker is stuck to his skin with hair growing out of it. i would call the vet but they are closed already.he most of gotten cut on somthing but what? is this somthing i should take him to the vet for? what should i do?
Is it like a hole in his skin? You should definitely take him in to the vet and have him checked out. With the risk of infection or it turning into an abcess, always better safe than sorry. Are there any sharp edges or wire pieces he could have gotten caught on? Are there any emergency vets near you that take rabits? Definitely keep an eye on him-make sure he is eating, drinking, peeing, and pooing.
I would absolutely take him to the vet. Does anything look red or inflamed?
Do rabbits get skin tags? I had a dog who got them constantly – not sure if rabbits can get them though.
well there is something in his cadge that he could have gotten cut on but i don’t know how it could have sliced it that much. you can tell it was there for awhile so i don’t think i need an emergency vet (and i don’t think we have one were we live) but i will definitely call the vet tomorrow and get it checked out. it isn’t like a hole it is like a flap of skin that got sliced off and didn’t heal all the way. it doesn’t seem to bother him so he must not be in pain but it might get infected. i am just so scared.
Just keep an eye on him. The infection or abcess is why I would call your vet, see when you can get him in to be seen. Is it dry or crusty at all?
well its kind of dry
Try to relax, even though it is hard, until you get him into the vet.![]()
ok thanks
i will tell you what happens
Yes, keep us posted!![]()
ok
I know sometimes it looks like these things will heal but what often happens in most skin breaks on a rabbit is they get an abscess-and because of how rabbits heal -abscesses do not go away on their own -I’m very glad your taking him in to the vet.
On the emergency vet thing-your right I wouldn’t rush for this and pay double at an e vet-it’s a GOOD idea to see if you have an evet. If it’s stasis or serious trauma you just don’t have time to be going through the yellow pages. So use your yellow pages now, and google-and locate an emergency vet now-or a vet who is open later -or ask your vet for her/his home phone number in case of an emergency. This cut-didn’t need an evet but we ALL should have a number we can call in an emergency ![]()
yeah i will try to find one. he is going to the vet in about an hour i couldn’t get him in sooner because my vet was doing surgery. i will tell you how it goes
got back about an hour ago would have posted sooner but the website most have been down for a while. So any way we went their and the vet looked at it and pulled the dry skin right off, then he put some stuff on it just in case it would have bleed then gave us some cream to put on once a day. we are keeping him in my room because we don’t want him to cut himself on what ever he cut him self on before. If i keep my room clean and smell free maby my mom will say he can stay in here for good. but mocha keeps on leaving poos out side of his litter box. how can i make him go in the litter box?
He’s leaving poos cuz he is marking the new area. Once it is His, he should be back to normal litter habits
Just keep picking them up and putting them in the box.
Glad it went well
The marking poos will lessen, just takes time…
ok thanks

i just want to thank you soooo much for all the information you have given me, i feel like i am asking to many questions. is this big enof its about 2 times bigger than his other cadge if it wasn’t i could expand it during the day, then at night leave it as big as in the pic.

There are never too many questions, That’s why we’re here!![]()

Does he get time outside of his pen?
yeah i could let him outside of his pen. um one question what about the vacuum cleaner? he has never herd one before i don’t really think he would be scared because before he was in the garage and he wasn’t scared of the cars, or the snow blower, or the air compressor, but being in a place were he normally isn’t might scare him. what should i do?
well we vacuumed today and he just sat there. so i guess i don’t have to worry about it any more.
That cage looks like a very good size (though I’m not sure how big your bunny is) as long as he gets exercise time. There’s definitely enough room in there for him to hop around and stretch his legs.

here is the picture of his cut
i know you guys say not to pick up your bunny out of its cadge but what about when i have to put his cream on?
and he hasn’t stoped pooing on the floor what should i do to make him go in his litter box before my mom makes him go bake out side!
He will poop outside of his box to mark. Just pick it up and put it in the box. Its just what they do, theres nothing you can do to make him stop marking. And try to pick him up when he isn’t in his cage, its better that way.
i can’t get him out of his cadge without entering his cadge. i tryed opening the door but he still won’t come out and he needs to get his medicine on.
If he wont come out, then you’ll have to lure him out. Is it a pen, or a cage?
its a pen, so once he is out i can pick him up?
i tryed to lure him with a banana but he wouldn’t come out so i ended up picking him up. i felt so bad but what ells could i do?
Not much if he wouldn’t come out. I have cages and pens for both of mine, I don’t pick them up in the cage, but I do in the pen.
Hi,
If there’s room enough to sit inside his cage (I like your set up as pictured, btw) you can stick your legs out and pull him in toward you between your legs. Then hold him in place, using your legs to help, and apply the cream with one hand while giving him head pets with the other. It may work if he’s comfortable with you and likes to be on the floor.
Also, when he’s on the floor, you can pet his head and gently but firmly press him on his shoulders to hold him down, while applying the cream. His wound is on his back, so he can be in a meatloaf position while you work on it. Holding the shoulders is a move that says to him that you are dominant, and he should hold still for that.
so what about if i want to get him out to exercise him?
Oh, he won’t come out at all?
To get him out, play on his appetite and curiosity. Open his cage, sit away from the opening, or lie down, and read a book. Have a treat (a raisin or banana slice) next to your leg or arm, clearly visible. Then ignore him. Leave the entrance to his cage open and don’t block it. He may get curious, smell the treat, and come out over to you. Don’t grab at him. Let him explore at his own pace, but do this where he can’t get into trouble once he’s out.
ok yeah he came out once when i opened the door but then i made a noise (not on purpose) and he ran back in.
Keep trying that. If you want, put on a TV to watch so there are continuous noises while you lie on the floor to watch, so he won’t be startled by the change in the quiet. Just put on something like people talking, rather than action dramas that have sudden noises.
ok i will try that
Is Mocha healing up nicely? Any updates?
yeah. i put the cream on every day and it got a scab but then the scab fell off so i put the cream on again but i don’t any more because its healing and his hair is almost all the way grown back ![]()
Thats good news
