Just wanted to brag about finally having a success bonding (me) with my two crazy bunnies! Strange as it sounds it took me leaving the buns for 3 weeks with my boyfriend (who wasnt too fond of them at first- but has come to love them) for the buns to finally come around and love me.
Anyways as most of you know I’ve had Samson since this past April. We spent the first month just staring at one another, me laying on the floor reading or watching a movie and Sam hopping around for his playtime. Eventually Sam was okay with head pets but only on his terms. Haha! Thats about as far as we ever got… and I was okay was sad but accepted him as a shy bun that liked to be on his own.
A few months later Samson picked out Ivy as his new buddy and we began bonding immediately so I didnt bond very much with Ivy alone. Ivy’s much more skittish than Sam but loves head pets esp on his chin. He wont seek them out but will sit for hours if you approach him and start.
Well-I had to go home for a family wedding, christmas and new years and was gone for about 3 weeks. I was nervous because while I knew my boyfriend would be very diligent and take good care of the bunnies, he really didnt hide the fact that he didnt like them very much. Anyways its funny how things work out…. he spent about 2 hrs sitting on the couch watching netflix everyday so the buns could have time out of the kitchen (which is their “cage”) and by the end of the first week the bunnies were in LOVE with him. It took him a bit longer to come around but now he’s getting them toys, saving cardboard boxes from work, and coming over to visit them more. And because of all the time he just spent sitting there now the buns are so much more curious and social. They sit in our laps, come lay next to us and nudge for pets, and are just much more social overall….. all still on THEIR terms but what a success!!
Figured Id share my good fortune and let all you bunny owners with shy bunnies know there is hope…. just give them time
