         Hi everyone,

So I’m not a regular on here, but about a month ago I got a holland lop, she’s currently 4 months old…and since that found this site (and have found it to be very helpful!)  Anyhow, I seem to worry about everything since this is still a new thing to me.  I hope it’s just her age, but she loves to chew and eat everything..so I have to be very careful what I leave out.  I put her travel crate in her play area today to give her something extra to play with and I just noticed her chewing on the latch on the door and that part of the rubber had been bitten off.  It was very small but I know how sensitive bunnies can be.  Sorry for the long rambling, but the point is, should I be overly concerned?  There’s nothing I can do to change it at this point, but I’m hoping to ease my mind a little.  Thanks in advance.  And again it was a very small piece…

I guess I should make up my mind…I said rubber and plastic…  I believe it’s actually rubber..

It would surprise me if a crate was made with toxic materials, but it’s possible. I would remove the crate, and possibly put her in her cage for the night. Give her a lot of hay to eat and not much else, so she has to eat the hay. Also a lot of water. Watch her behavior and her poos. If she is eating and pooping with no sign of stress, then it probably will pass through her system with the help of the hay. I would call my regular vet first thing in the morning, unless your vet has a message machine. In that case, leave a message asking what you just asked us. You may need to bring her in.

However, if anyone is more experienced with rubber being ingested, please reply if you think it is more serious and something more immediate needs to be done.

Thanks for your response.  She seems to be doing just fine today (and was fine last night), eating and drinking as usual…nothing out of the ordinary.  Hopefully this means no issues!

            I appreciate your feedback.

I’m glad your bun is doing ok! My bun has also eaten rubbery substances and was fine. They’re sensitive, but I think they’re often able to handle small amounts of weird foods. As long as she’s pooping and eating, I’m sure she’ll be fine.

I mean, don’t let them EAT it-but no -I don’t think they’ll be an issue at all My buns have eaten many rubber remote control buttons and I know I’m not the only one with naughty buns…
                Glad everything looks good though

Just found out the Buster bun has been eating her silicone loaf pan. She’s been sleeping in it since she was a baby —it was her bed. WE had to take it away. I am trying out a metal loaf pan covered in towels, but its not working out
Any rec’s for a small bed?

                    Hi Denise,

I am by no means the expert on this… but my bun doesn’t really have a bed per say. I had gotten her a hideaway hut made of grass (Peters brand, all safe) but she’s almost chewed apart the entire bottom about a month later … so I’m not sure that’s her bed anymore haha. She’ll still sit in it though, and I’ve since put 2 grass mats (same peters brand) in her cage and she likes laying on those too. I hesitate giving her much else since she seems to chew on and/or eat everything at this point, so I want everything to be safe to be ingested just in case.

                    Hope this might help?

                       Hi,

This is the thing. She loved her loaf pan! She was so cute in it!!! We are so sad to throw it out, but she started eating it and there was no evidence of pieces!

That is soo cute!! What a funny girl she is! I think the suggestion of a grass type bed is a good one. Some of those weaved baskets, even tote type bags, can be quite soft and flexible so it may feel a bit like her silicon bed.

Haha, those are the cutest pics ever! Adorable. I hope you’re able to find something else that she loves just as much 🙂

Those pics are cute Denise! BB is selling an awesome pet bed now, but anything like that from the petstore would work (a small cat bed). Just make sure it’s washable. I’ve also had the grass huts and my buns loved it, but they eat thru it eventually and it has to be replaced. Other people have just done a small wood house or overturned basket with a small hole for a door. I’d try some different things.
