How much hay does your rabbit eat? Recently Loppi has been eating a lot of it, about 3-4x of the amount like in the manger in the picture per day. Isn’t that a lot? He also gets some pellets (not too much though), and fresh vegetables

Actually the more hay the better. That should be the largest part of your rabbit’s diet. You are lucky he likes his hay.

Ditto Sarita. And 3-4x the amount in that hay rack isn’t that much – it seems like a good amount for one bun.

My rabbits eat alot of hay every day. Just a little bite more than what yours is eating. So its a good amount, its healthy for them.

I wanted to add that veggies and hay have a very low density of nutrition. So animals need to eat a lot of them to get the nutrients and fiber they require. My bun probably eats more than his own body volume in veggies and hay every day, while a large dog might only get a cup of food per day. Totally normal.

also, this might be completely unrelated, but i’ve noticed that since being neutered, MJ eats a TON more hay than he used to. in fact, he just generally eats a lot more. not sure why, but the increase in his interest of hay is a good thing for sure!

i guess buns are just as finicky as humans. =)

It’s GREAT your bun is loving the hay sometimes it’s hard to get the little piggies to eat their health food

My buns are hay piggies. I can barely afford to stock enough

Ok, so this is a good thing. First when we got him he didn’t want to eat hay at all! We just fed him pellets at first, then slowly introduced new veggies to him. Took him a while to get to eat the hay, we tried a few different types. Don’t know if the has something to do with the neutering, cause he had just been neutered a few days before we got him. But he does love this hay, it’s Oxbow hay. Can sure recommend this type of hay.

My two go through about 4 pounds of hay in a little over a week.

I would say that of that amount, maybe 10% is wasted…because they REALLY love their hay.

Loki weighs about 10lbs and goes through about 3 pounds of hay a week and I would say that I agree with balefulregards…Loki loses about 10% of her hay because she sits on it while she eats the rest of it, lol.
