I feel my setup is almost perfect but I am having a problem finding safe and comfortable flooring for my buns.  I live in an apartment so removing the carpeting in the room is not an option nor is just letting them stay on the carpet because some of them like to dig and chew.  Right now what I have is a piece of smooth plywood of somekind (my husband actually bought it, not 100% sure what it is but i know it has no chemical treatements) with a larger area rug on top.  The wood is ok but when the rabbits “miss” or “forget” their litterboxs it soaks in and smells and one of them enjoys chewing on it.  With the area rugs, they are ok with it but when they get bored or it is sticking up they chew on it.  I don’t think they eat it but they definately rip it apart.  They  have phonebooks and tubes and unlimited hay but they STILL chew on the rugs.  What i’d like, is flooring that has texture so they won’t slip and something waterproof.  I have been to several home improvement stores and they kinda have what i’m looking for which is the plastic vener stuff that people put up in the showers (which is too slippery) or a particle board which isn’t waterproof but not slippery.  What does everyone else use?  I could really use some tips to help complete my setup.  Thanks!

My 2 are just on the carpet, but I’m lucky in that they aren’t the types to dig and chew at it

maybe you could put a roll of linoleum over a new piece of wood so it would be water proof and then put the area rug over it so it wouldnt be slippery.

I got a huge linoleum remnant for $5 and it was enough for the bottom of both cages with more leftover. I don’t know if I just caught someone in a good mood that night or it’s always that easy to get it cheap, but it’s the least expensive and easiest to clean material I could have gotten, I think.

Chilly and Dusty have a nice sized play area with a carpet remnant over a blue tarp from the hardware store. This way if Dusty happens to mark the carpet, the waterproof tarp will protect my hardwood floor. Granted, the tarp is larger than the carpet and sticks out about 1 foot around each side, it doesn’t seem to stop them from running around and doing binkies. Blue might not be the color you’re looking for, but at least it’s waterproof and slip resistant once anchored down.
