I recently bought a dwarf loped eared rabbit..The lady who I bought him from said he was approx 6 months old. He is an inside house rabbit and is litter box trained. He was doing great then all of a sudden one day, he started this habit of everytime I put my hand near him he would try to hump it. Now every time he is out of his cage he sprays everything. Can anyone help me understand why he is doing this? Should I get him fixed?

Absolutely – he needs to be neutered. The sooner the better.

You have now seen Rabbit Puberty – He has come of sexual age and is loving you, claiming everywhere as his own with the urine.

Getting him neutered will help, greatly, with his mounting behaviors, and his spraying. It make take a good month for his hormones to completely die down after the neuter, but will be best for him and You in the long run.

Just remember, he is a sexually frustrated Teen Rabbit.

Thanks for the answers. Its very frustrating specially since its eveyrtime I get him out of his cage, not only is he spraying and humping and he also has started chewing on cords. I wonder if maybe he humps my hands cause I have 2 outside rabbits one is male, and the other is female. maybe he could be smelling the female rabbit on my hands. The vet up where I live said they could neuter him for $45 so I’m thinking it will be best to get him fixed.

Definitely get him neutered, and is there a reason why the other 2 are outside, and not indoors? I’m curious

I got them two first they are my sons rabbits and at the time when I got them I wasn’t able to have them indoors. I have tried them both inside and they don’t like it.

45.00 wow thats great.     Neuter asap  so he won’t be in a habit of spraying.   If you let it go for another 3-6 months it will be a habit and he may not stop completely

The humping has nothing to do with whether he smells other rabbits on you or not.   HE may also start circling your feet and honking at them.

Oh lovely sexy feet honk honk   lol.

They don’t like it indoors? How long did you try them inside? They may have just not have been used to it and were a little unsure. It really isn’t safe for buns outside in my opinion… too many predators and things like fly strike are easier for them to get. Not to mention weather… Monkey would kill me if I put her outside

I tried it for 2 weeks and they would make a mess out of everything and not want to be held and when i put them back outside they started acting like them old selves. No flying things can get to them cause They are in a pen that has wire on the top so nothing can get into it and then a barn they go in with a heatlamp.

8 months is definitely old enough, mine is 5 months and he just got fixed.

I’m with MB on trying to bring the other two in again. I just think they would be so much happier being able to spend time with their humans!

Also agree with the others that a neuter is in order. Typical hormonal male bun behavior! Haha. $45 is a fantastic price too!

I have to go out of state to get that cheap price. Where I live at here in Texas they want like $250 to fix him. I live close  Oklahoma so I take all my animals to a vet there. He is much cheapier on prices and does good work.  $45 is alot better than $250 specially since I’m a full time college student and a full time mommy & wife. I do bring in my other rabbits everyday and let them play but everytime I have tried to get them to stay indoors there personality changes. Before I got them they where also out side rabbits so maybe its just outside is what they are used it. Nothing can get themoutside. They are in a chainlink fence with a wire top and then they are in there cages but, I let them out during the day to roam around the big pen and but them up at night in their cages that are in a barn with a heat lamp for the winter.
