Does anyone have bunny and cats?  They have bonded very well.  One of the kittens wakes us up in the morning meowing until we let the bunny out.  However, having trouble litter training the bunny outside his cage.  We were doing very well until the kittens decided they could use his box.  Any suggestions?

Our 14 year old cat, Lucy co-exists with the bunz.  You can tell she really wants to play, but can’t seem to figure it out.  We thought she would be so curious with the boxes & tubes, but nope!  In the mornings, Lucy is usually asleep within’ a foot or two of the bunz & they seem to like being in the same space together…but I sure wish they would chase each other & play.  Its been almost 2 years now, so I guess that is the best I’ll get.  The bunz are ALWAYS approaching her and she never swats Gulliver, but she does Lainey – no claws though.  I would LOVE to get kittens but Lucy is just too set in her ways & is the diva of our house .

Our bunnies seem to be more dominant than that cats- even though all the cats were there first (cats are strictly indoor).  Cotton before she was spayed used to snuggle with them- but as she entered her teenage stage she began to demand grooming instead of nap session- and when the sleeping kitty refused to groom her- she would nip their bellies.  So the cats don’t cuddle with her anymore or purposefully go by her.  And all 3 of the bunnies will jump on the couch to beg for treats and stand walk all over whatever cat happens to be sleeping on the couch between me and my husband- they have no concept of personal space between cat and rabbit- the cats will yell and scream in protest until the cat finally leaves if it does not stop and the bunnies could care less.

Our cat and bunnies don’t mix much, and I don’t trust them fully together unsupervised. I haven’t had the time to really put the effort in to build a bond with them. They know about each other, they just don’t mingle for bunny cat chat. P-kitty is pretty easy going, but I wouldn’t doubt that if a bunny nipped him, that he could do two possible things: run-away or give a bunny a claw-filled swat as a reaction and THEN runaway. Vivian has not problem really with him though she would lunge at him and growl if she felt unsure, otherwise she shows some interest and just stares calmly at him. But Jack….oh Jack…he gets all riled up and starts spraying if Kitty gets in what he considers his space.

I have 4 cats & 3 rabbits.  Initially, we did not let the rabbits out unsupervised w/ the cats.  I had an issue w/ marking on cat beds & rabbits using the cat litter boxes.  I got tired of all the drama so didn’t bother w/ the minglng of species.  Over time everyone seemed to get better.  I eventually let them all roam free now.  They have all learned to get along and I have no problems.

Our new bunny, Chewbacca, is NOT allowed to free roam.  She chews EVERYTHING!  Loves to potty on Max’s cat bed.  She also likes to play in the kitty litter box.  When we let he out, we have a gate in front of the closet where the boxes are located.  Fortunately, the kitties have learned to be patient at the gate until we let them into their litterboxes.  She loves to lay w/ the cats, next to their beds.  She just really needs to be supervised, not b/c the cats will do anything to her…they are getting too old to care, but b/c she is so naughty!

I don’t nor have ever had kittens or cats. I did have some kittens for a bit but for fear of disease or contamination did not let the bunnies near the kittens-in fact the buns were quite frightened of the kittens (but not of my dog 10x bigger )

I’d guess the easiest solution to the cat using the same box as the rabbit would be to put another cat box beside it with cat litter in it. Using a high box (one rabbits can’t get to) might work-and rubbing catnip a bit on the cat box may encourage-but I’m not cat person-I love them-never had one Just guessing here

I thought that the main interspecies zoonosis is taxoplasmosas (?) b/t cats & rabbits, but I may be wrong.  I know that it is b/t cats & humans, but only if the cat is infected.  Worms can be transferred, but if you have indoor cats its very unlikely.  My only concern when the rabbits would use the cat box was that I use scoopable/dusty litter for the cats.  My Max Cat will not tolerate any deviations, including brand transfers.  Initially I left a second bunny box near the cat box.  One of the cats would use it, but the other 3 would not…they didn’t like the litter!  W/ Chewbacca I was VERY concerned about her playing in the dirty dusty boxes.  The downstairs rabbits don’t go near the cat boxes anymore.  When Chewie is out, I block the doorway.
