Digging is a normal and fun activity for bunnies, so I wouldn’t be too concerned about that behavior. Though I can understand how annoying it is if he’s flinging his litter out of his box. You could try getting a litter box with a grate, that way he can’t get to the litter (newspaper isn’t the most absorbent and doesn’t do so well on odor control, so if you want to try something else a grate covering the litter might be a good option). Also, you could try making him a “diggy box” – a cardboard box filled with strips of paper that he can dig in. As for not coming out of the cage, you should read your other post for suggestions on how to get him to trust you.

            Hi,
Often your bunny helps you figure out what is best for them – with protests, poos, messes, and behavior. When you’ve gotten the set up to their satisfaction, they become friendly angels. That’s why we call ourselves slaves.

I never like newspaper in a cage as a regular item, partly for Barbie’s reasons of lack of absorbency and odor control, partly because the ink makes for dirty bunny feet. It’s not harmful, but for digging fun, a fat phone book is safe and thick and can be outside the cage as a toy. Bunnies are fine without bedding on the main floor of the cage as long as it’s not wire. Wire is bad for their feet over time. So if you just put the litter in the pan to train him, it will work eventually.

My experience is that some bunnies like certain kinds of litter and hate others. So they toss what they don’t like out. Your choices can be the pellet kind, with Yesterday’s News, Aspen Supreme pellets, or Feline Pine pellets as 3 favorites. (DO NOT get pine shavings, though. Harmful. Aspen shavings are OK.) Othere bunnies like the softer kind, like Carefresh which makes paper products that are not as pressed and hard.

As for not coming out, how long have you had him? They build up trust. If you are letting him into a large space, he may be afraid. You can let the cage open into a small room, or a smaller space that you are in quietly for now, and let him explore slowly. Also, sit on the floor, Ignore him, read a book, but have some treats in your hand and pockets. So when he does come out and you feel curious whiskers, you can reward him with a treat. He will associate you with something good and yummy. Right now you’re just a big scary animal. He’ll learn otherwise in no time.

From your other post https://binkybunny.com/FORUM/tab…px#149017, it looks like he is really new to your home at this point (less than 24 hours). He’s in a brand new place, with a brand new person, it would be normal for him to be little scared and anxious. Sometimes bunnies will dig when they are anxious too (though they do it for fun too!), but because he’s so new to your home, he just may need a little time to get used to things.

I wouldn’t allow him to explore the whole house yet. Just add more and more freedom slowly otherwise he could claim the whole place as his and leave territorial markings (poops) everywhere..

Also, you do not want to feed him only apples. Too much sugar. Is he a baby? You definitely want to be extra careful with young rabbits as they haven’t fully developed their digestive bacteria they need to break down a variety of foods.

That’s great he is using his litterbox. It is his very first full day now with you so that is good. I know you are excited to have him with you, but it might be a good idea to just let him be for a bit.   I know you said he was thumping on on another post, and he scratched, and then he was scared off in a corner, so just take it easy, relax and let him settle in. In the mean time, you can take the time to read about rabbit care. I know Sarita gave you a great site (the Singapore HRS), and read the Bunny Info section on this site, and check out rabbit.org.

Also, you can tell us more about him. His age, where you got him, what made you decide to get a bunny? That way we can know about your bunny and can help you more in the future.

Pooping in other places is usually a normal thing when you first get a new bunny, they mark their territory. Just keep moving them to his litter box.

Aww!I am so sad!Just now I brought him out for like 30mins and he went to my bed then out of living room and lied to my personal cushion.Guess what?He lift his leg up while i was beside him.I wasn’t experience so I don’t know is he peeing.I suspect he is so I went right down and pee right to my hand! And then he peed at the cushion. The cushion is now drying now.I am so disappointed with him.Is it I brought him out too long and he can’t stand it, or he is marking his territory?

Hmm its possible he’s just marking. You can tell when they are going to pee by if they lift their tails up, and my Monkey likes to squish her butt into whatever it is she is peeing in. You may want to get him a litter box for outside his cage for when he is out that he can find. Will make it easier to litter train him

It is very common for bunnies to pee on couches. Bunnies like to mark their territory, and the couch is a very popular place to mark because it smells very strongly of your scent. The best way to gain your bunny’s trust is to sit on the floor with your bunny and let him come to you. Bunnies do not really like to be picked up. So sit next to his cage and talk to him, or read a book out loud to him so he gets used to your voice. Also, you said the exit to the bunny cage is at the top? Please look at these pictures of bunny habitats and try to make yours look like these ones. Bunnies don’t really climb out of the top of things, so maybe that exit is not working for him.
