  I have an almost 5 year old flemish giant. About 2 weeks ago it seems he took a seizure, he just fell over and shook and his breathing was really slow. I kept checking on him and he wouldnt eat or drink. He had an extremely tilted head, I took him to the vet. They said it was most likely a ear infection and was put on antibotics 2 times a day for 8 days. His eye was also really red. So he took all his medicine and hes eatting and drinking on his own again. His head is still slightly tilted, his eye is better, but he keeps falling over and rolling. I’m gonna call the vet again, but he has me worryed. I’ve been reading online about it. Im not sure if its just was an infection or if it was a stroke. Any help would be appreciated.

  Well and ear infection could affect his balance but how did they ensure this is what he had? Do you feel confident with your vet? The seizure beforehand is a little worrying. They should really look into neurological issues. Also, rabbits can carry a parasite to that can cause some neurological issues and head tilt. What is the name of the antibiotic he is on?
  That the tilt is improving shows perhaps it is just an ear infection but I think a 2nd check up would be wise.

  They said they were pretty sure, they have saw alot of rabbits with it. I’m not sure the name of the medicine. They poured it from a big container into a little one for me and it didnt have the name on. They just put on it take 2 times a day for 8 days. It was pink thats the only thing I know. I never experienced this with any of the other rabbits I have or had. I’m calling the vet first thing in the morning when they are open.

  It sounds like TMZ suspension. It definitely could be an inner ear infection but it would be wise to take him back into the vet for a recheck as well.
  
  It can take a good while to recover from headtilt as well and perhaps he will need to be on antibiotics longer.
  
  Best advice is to take him back for a recheck – also ask about do a culture and sensitivity test.

  Yes, they can do further testing to figure out what meds he will respond to the best. Head tilt (if that’s what it is) is treatable, especially since you’ve gotten him in early.
  
  If you have any pics you can post, I for one, would love to see your boy!

  He’s on round 2 of med. Still gotta keep a close eye on him and hopefully this cures it. If not I’ll have to take him in for tests. Hopefully this don’t get to costly. I have pics I will have to get some up. I also have a 4 yr old giant chincillia.

  We can’t tell over the internet. To seperate from an infection and a stroke or cancer, blood work and xrays have to be done. Wjhat does your vet suggest?

  Vet suggested the medicine.. said sometimes it can take up to a month to cure it. She also said to watch him closely and see if he gets any better with it. If not to take him in for tests. So thats what I’m doing, the vets not open until Sat. So that gives time to watch him.

  Yes sometimes it’s a lot cheaper to just treat for the most likely thing and go from there-rather then running a buch of tests. Tests could be a last resort if other treatments don’t work.

  hes doing better hes up washing and his eyes are clear…his head is still slightly tilted but he can sit up straight he just tilts it sometimes? not sure why..he gets dizzy once in awhile and just flops over but no seizures or anything. so i hope hes gonna improve more.

  bunny just died 2nite….he was breathing hard kinda like wheezing and layin on his side….with all this snow here..everything is closed and state of emergancy had the roads closed to…..i felt so bad….i sat with him and tried to get him to drink since he stopped drinking and eatting around midnite…so he finally passed…..this was my first experience with sumthin like this happenin to a bunny after havin them as pets for 12 yrs or so…i hope i never have to deal with all this again

  Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
  When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

  OH, I am so sorry! At least you were with him, and he knew you loved him. He no longer is suffering and is in peace. I know this hurts though, so hugs to you and for your Flemish Giant — Binky Free Big Guy!

  I just saw this tonight. I am so sorry for your loss. It is rough when help is hard or impossible to get to and you see your pet is failing. I had that happen with one of my cats years ago. I’m so sorry you both had to go through this.
  I am sure your bun felt loved with you there in his last moments. Many binkies in paradise for your dear bun and hugs for you! ((((((((((hugs))))))))))))

  I am so sorry. What a terrible night, but he died in your loving care knowing how much you love him. A bunny’s life can be short, but it is full from their perspective and so very, very good when they have a devoted slave like you to care for them no matter what. It is frightening and frustrating to be housebound in an emergency. I’m sure he would not have wanted you to endanger yourself as well. You did your best. He is binkying free now.
  
  If you feel little tickles on your head and feet that’s just him saying “I’m OK now, Mom. The suffering is over and I love you.”
