So I was taking out a bunch of things from my kitchen cabinet as buster was eating right below it and a wire cooling rack fell on her
She ran away and knocked into the wall and the gate and then started thumping and was terrified. I am so sad and sorry.  She freaked out so bad. After that, she started eating again and we’ve been baking all night with her in there but just before, I went to open the same cabinet and she freaked out while in her cage (like an hour later) and started thumping again.  I’m so sad and I think she’s traumatized. I even went over to her to give her a carrot and she ran away.  I went over to her again a few minutes later and she was still scared of me.  She is laying down now and looks good and recently let me pet her for a while, but i’m worried she’s going to be a scardy bunny now  every time I open that cabinet…or even scared of me in general. So sad and sorry

it takes a while for them to calm down from a good fright like that – I’d be stressed too!

Poor bunny. She will calm down eventually. My boyfriend had a loud party Saturday and it wasn’t until Sunday evening that Karl would let me get near him. It took a bit longer before he would let my boyfriend get near him. Just give you bunny some peace and quiet and try to hand feed her, so she is relaxed around you again. And make sure you sit down when you are near her and don’t bend over her – right now bad things come from above, according to her.

It’s okay… things like that happen. It’s funny b/c buns can have the longest memories ever of some things, and it seems like other stuff, they forget immediately (like where that litterbox is… lol!) But I would just continue to watch her, maybe give her a treat so she’s preoccupied when you need to go in that cabinet… at least for a few days…

In our house, we always have a certain noise level, since we have a child and my husband and I love music and movies… and our buns have gotten used to it. Max will actually lay down in the path of the running vacuum and it doesn’t phase him at all… They say the same thing with human kids, you want them to be used to your household sounds or else you’re going to end up whispering for 3 years… :o)

                Thanks everyone!
She’s definitely better today, but as soon as I opened the top drawer, she got scared. I wont be doing it around her for a while.

whispering for 3 years that a good one.

Yeah bun will eventually get over it.

They can really hold a grudge for several days if they feel like it. It’s typical moody bunny behavior, though a strong freight is more of a “what is coming at me now?” response. So she will definitely forgive you (treats, she says. Give me treats and I’ll think about it with my mouth full.) but creatures that attack her come from there, so she may just stay leary of the cupboards.

This reminds me-I just scared the crud out of Rupert a week or so ago. I was worried as Chuck wasn’t eating too much (not normal…) and I come home at lunch to feed and pee pad change and let the dog out etc. So I grabbed my cereal (lunch as it were) and went and stood in the bunny room doorway (not routine) well Rupert thought that was totally weird-freaked, ran around, cornered himself…Seriously what a dork…So I had to abandon lunch to pick him up for cuddles and reassurance. No idea why-I mean it wasn’t routine-but it was mom! He can certainly be a goober thou-he gets freaked if we cook (Which doesn’t happen normally) but is fine with my dog charging in and stealing banana ?

They can certainly hold a grudge and take a while to calm down-but the lovely thing is they will forgive-especially with peace offerings of raisins
