I’ve noticed today that Jasper’s been sneezing quite a bit. Can bunnies get colds? He’s been living indoors since I got him and  its summer here. Is this serious?

Take your bunny to the vet as soon as you can just to make sure he/she doesn’t have an infection.  My bunny, Royce, was sneezing A LOT last week.  I took him to the vet and found out that he has an upper respiratory infection.  He has a clear discharge from his nose but is otherwise acting normal.  He’s been on Baytril for about 5 days now and he’s due for a follow up appointment on Sunday.  His sneezing has reduced but he still has a discharge from his nose.  I’m freaking out! I hope it clears up soon.

If an upper respiratory infection is left untreated, it can progress into pneumonia which can be fatal (my last rabbit passed away after developing pneumonia).

i agree with royce&abby. i would take him and make sure he is ok. my bunny also has a respiratoy infection and is on medication. he barely had a clear discharge from his nose and no other signs of being sick. they did an xray on him a few days ago and we found out he has fluid in his chest around his lungs. he is on 2 different kinds of medicine and we are hoping he gets better soon. its pretty common for bunnies to get a cold. if he just sneezes once in a while or you notice its usually around the time that you get the bottom of his food or hay bag where its dustier than it might not be a big deal. with bunnies i think you dont want to take that chance. always better to be safe than sorry. i hope your bunny is ok. keep us updated.

(try to take him to a vet that deals with alot of bunnies. i took mine to 2 that claimed to know about bunnies and didnt see a problem with him. the 3rd one is a bunny specialist and we found out that he really was sick)

Were you able to get him seen by a vet?
              How is he doing today?
(If he continues to sneeze, we can pass him a hanky.)

I took him to the vet and she said he’s fine. But I’m still quite worried cos he’s still sneezing, I’d going to try and find a rabbit experienced vet hopefully and take he for a second opinion.

Is the litter or hay dusty?
This is the only listing I could see for NZ on House Rabbit Society’s listing.

If this is nowhere near you, they may be able to point you to someone closer. Goodluck!
