It takes up to a month for hormones to fade, so give it a bit of time

It can actually take up to a couple months for hormones to decrease… If she is past that time period, depending on her age, she may still be exhibiting adolescent behaviors (the teenager stage) until she is about 1-1.5 years old, regardless of whether those hormones are gone.

Also, remember that the primary reason to spay is for reducing cancer risks, changes in behavior are not always a guarantee. This does happen in many buns but it’s not the case with each and every bun, and the degree to which the behavior is improved will vary as well.

It seemed to take Sammy a bit longer than a month to really calm down.

Your bunny might not be very comfortable around the dog, and it may make it more difficult for her to calm down.

Well a spay is not going to make her less hyper. It is possible she is not comfortable with the dog as RabbitPam said and a spay isn’t going to make her more comfortable. Also even with a spay it isn’t going to change some age related behavior.

You could have a bunny with rabbitude, and/or she could have learned that this behavior gets her her way. Some bunnies will become less territorial and less aggressive over the territory, but she could still be bossy about other things IF that is part of her nature. And so if that is the case and it’s not about her hormones, then we can try and figure her out and work with her so she is at least not attacking – which brings me to my next question – What do you mean by “attack” – Does she bite? is there something that usually gets her going? Like petting her on a particular area, or is it when you get near her she is just runs over and attacks.

I have had three VERY bossy bunnies, that were spayed/neutered prior to be getting them, and they used to bite,(Rucy was the worst – she didn’t give warning nips and bites, she lashed out if she felt you crossed her) but I was able to teach them to express their opinions in less aggressive ways. I don’t have problems with a bunny that wants to nudge my hand away, or grunt at me or even give me a little one-two punch, but if they bite, then I try to work with that behavior based on their reasoning for biting (current fear based, a learned behavior maybe originally based on fear, or just a bossy dominant)

Another thing to consider-a spay hurts-so her attitude could be plain rabbitude from not feeling well, as well as being mad at you-they aren’t brain surgeons but they can certainly connect that you brought them somewhere and then they hurt after

Luckily they do forgive, and once she’s healed, and horomones have calmed down-and she’s seen you make an effort to apolgize (think raisins) she’ll very likely return to her normal self.

Oh crikey! Beka, I was so close to demanding to know what was wrong with Meadow – why was she in surgery?…had to read K&K’s post a few times until it clicked. Maybe Meadow gave me a lobotomy.

whew! shlbysmom – I’m buying you a Period key for xmas!

I think the dog is just not a welcome addition to her life and I’d suggest keeping them separated.
Sammy tends to growl and lunge, so try to have everyone keep from bringing their hands in front of shelby’s face and eyes. Bring your hands down from above so she doesn’t see them, but feels the pets on her head. It’s different for bunnies than for dogs, who like to sniff first.
If she lunges, back away and ignore her. You can sit down and turn your back on a bunny to show disapproval. That’s what they do, and it’s a way of speaking their language. Then wait to feel little whiskers. She will come to you.
