im in no way an expert at all but i just got my girl bunny spayed a couple weeks ago. i would call your vet as soon as you can. My bun wasnt pooping for 2days but it was weekend n my vets was closed, i called monday morning n within 20mins they had her up at the vets. they kept her in untill the wednesday and gave her 2 sets of jags to get her bowels moving again. it was sooo nerve raccking but shes back to normal and cheeky as ever now even the vet said she was a little madame lol

Well, it’s good she is eating something. It can take two or three days for normal eating to return. I think to ease your anxiety if you don’t see any poops by tomorrow noon, call the vet.

If it makes you feel any better, Otto wasn’t really pooping until at least 24 hours after his neuter, but he came around just fine. Luckily, the vet keeps all rabbits for observation, so I felt that he was in good hands during this period. They wouldn’t let him leave until he was 100% again.

If I were you, I’d take her in tomorrow morning if she’s still not pooping. I would just be much more comfortable with a doctor dealing with it rather than myself.

I’ve gone through 2 spays….I got about 2 maybe 5 tiny poops after 24 hrs.  Actually I think that was Jessica, Chewbacca I let go almost 2 days b/c it seemed like she pottied (slightly) within the 48 hrs.  However, I have learned peace of mind is more important than anything.  I say, if only slight or less potty by tomorrow and only a pittance of eating by tomorrow AM, I’d take her in.

Did you get any critical care?  W/ Chewie after less than 1 day on CC, she started to return, slowly to eating.  I think she hated being force fed.  Remember all vets are different and your vet may want you to contact after 24 hrs w/ only slight potty & food.  Whereas others might be willing to push it to 36-48 hrs.  Talk to the vet & get some rest.  You watching her isn’t going to make her potty or eat (that’s what my DH had to remind me repeatedly

I’m a big believer in calling vets, especially right after any visit or procedure. A phone call doesn’t necessarily mean a trip to the vet, but is easy to get reassurance and advice for the night or told what to do tomorrow. It’s her obligation to be available to you for any questions, so if you haven’t called yet, and she hasn’t pooped yet, by all means at least leave a message.

Be sure she has water and very, very moist greens. Even a slurry of ground pellets might not be bad if you don’t have any Critical Care. just that liquids are good for moving the digestive tract.

The meds from surgery, pain meds AND antibiotics can ALL cause mushy poops, small poops and just general poop disturbances-as long as it’s coming out -which it is-WONDERFUL!!

It’s amazing how attached we get to our little furry friends! I’ve cried when Charlie’s pooped several times now because I’ve been so relieved.

I’ve got a chronic pasteurella bun who spent more than 8 months on various antibiotics.  She also has a TON of rabbitude.  If she wasn’t so food-driven we would not have survived.  A blob of applesauce or canned pumpkin (not pie filling) usually does the trick, or if it’s a small dose like her probiotic I just drizzle it over her pellets.

Normally at LEAST three days of confinement where she can’t jump and run around too much, but some vets prefer 7 days. What did your vet say?

You may have to go thru some abbreviated bonding sessions to get them together full-time after she’s healed, but it sounds like things are going great! It’s really hard to keep them penned up that long when you just want them to come out and play! She is beautiful by the way! I love mini rexes!

She may have a different scent from the surgery, but she also may have her own scent changed a bit due to the hormones adjusting. It takes about 3-4 weeks for them to fully die down, but then she should be settled. I wouldn’t do any real bonding with them until then.

Sounds like she’s recovering really well. If you’re home tomorrow, you could probably let her out supervised. Are her stitches dissolving or do you need to go back for their removal? If you have to take her in, you might wait until that’s done. Doesn’t sound like that’s your situation, however.

Grooming is great! I’d continue to do some short, closely supervised sessions with them to preserve the bond they have, but I’d still wait for her to be thoroughly healed (just in case!) before moving on to longer, unsupervised visits.

Whoa! It could be a territory thing. In her space he’s fine… in his space, not so much. Maybe I will retract my initial statement and encourage you to wait a bit longer. I don’t want her to get hurt and then you end up with a hefty ER bill :o(

What kind of set-up do you have for them? Is there neutral space you can do sessions?

Also-when we did move to non-neutral space bonding-it’s important to ensure that they have room to escape-so a square small space will just allow cornering-where as some turns, more space or a few objects to run around -allow escape. This is only going to work if one is aggressive-not both. If both want to fight-they will because no one will be running away.
