I feel like a horrible bunny mom right now!
I was cleaning out pens this morning and tripped on Pacey’s litterbox and I STEPPED on Pacey’s head! He wouldn’t move at all no sound no thump no moving just laying there I thought I killed him and burst into tears.
I scooped him up and rushed him to the vet he still wasn’t moving! When the vet came in he popped up and started growling and thumping. They did x-rays and the vet felt of him and said he was fine.
I am still freaking out and still feel really really really bad my poor baby! ![]()
I’m sorry that happened. You did not mean to do this so try not to feel bad although I would feel the same as you. I’m glad he is okay too.
Bad Pacey for making you think he was gone!
*hugs* my hubby accidently booted Monkey in the head last night when he walked past her in her pen… >.< It happens to everybun I think! lol
I’ve sent Felony flying a few times. When I’ve been walking, he has shot out in front of my feet. A time or two, he planned it just right so that I’d scoop him with my foot as I took a step. Of course I couldn’t completely stop my motion until he was a couple feet in the air and across the room… Crazy bunny.
Oh goodness! I am glad he is okay though! I remember when we first brought our kitten home we kept her in a box in my brothers room until she was a bit bigger because she was SO SO TINY. We were sure my dad’s size 14 feet would be the end of her. Our pets always do have a funny way of always getting themselves under our feet. Bunnies, cats and dogs alike.
Oh, that is so scary when stuff like that happens! One time Calypso jumped up on the couch just as my boyfriend was sitting down… my bf screamed, I started crying, and Calypso hopped away like nothing had happened. I picked him up and started crying into his fur, telling him how much I loved him. In response, he tried to dig a hole in my chest. lol
Oh man, that is scary. Im sorry that happened
but it sounds like Pacey will be ok!
Leroy does this thing where he runs up behind me and squirts BETWEEN my legs as I’m walking, and… being a girl, I tend to put one foot in front of the other when I walk so I’ve actually managed to SQUISH him between my ankles on more than one occasion. I’ve actually heard him grunt once when I squeezed all the air out of him.
He was fine of course, but still… Not fun for mommy!
Sneaky bun. I think he likes making me feel bad. I’ve taken to watching behind me as I’m walking around the apartment when I don’t know where he is. ![]()
Eep! I think I would’ve fainted if my bunny wasn’t moving in that situation.
I think all 4 of Mr. Bunny’s paws have been stepped on at some point…And also, he has a habit of running up to me so fast that he doesn’t see my leg where he’s going – then slams into me. Lol

LMAO! My two do the same thing! They’re like little furry tanks! They just plow right into me and often get sent flying across the room if I happen to be walking. You’d think that tiny little squish-balls would not be so fearless around giants like us!
Oh, Sonn, that must have been awful for you, but you did the right thing and Pacey is fine.
Breathe.
I am wondering if he went into an instinctual freeze – maybe they do that if it’s a predator and they just shut down and play dead in case it helps the predator lose interest. since you know he wasn’t hurt, it’s possible.
I think I know what you mean Sonn, Charlie once did that to me after he had his yearly shot. He sort of fainted and became really floppy, I thought the vet had killed him and I was nudging him and shaking him trying to get him to move. The vet determined that he was still alive, not in shock etc but he didn’t start moving for another 10mins of so. I almost died of a heart attack in that time, I was hyperventilating and stuff.
When I look back on it, it’s hilarious, cause I have a fainting rabbit. Luckily I was already at the vets and they at least knew that he was a fainter when he got his shots this year.
You did the right thing getting him to the vet straight away. These things happen to all of us! I bet everyone here has a story about accidently stepping on their rabbits. I know my poor buns have paid a high, sometimes painful price for their love of walking under my feet!
Honestly with how clumsy I am and all their junk everywhere-I’m surprised this wasn’t me posting this
Don’t feel bad-total mistake and you did what was right-trip to the vet to see if everything is OK
*HUGS*
And if it makes you feel better-a lady I met at work, she’s a union rep, did almost the same thing-jaunty kick to her dogs head-and broke his jaw!! Thousands of dollars and immeasurable guilt later dog is good. Sooo definitely not out of the ordinary-don’t feel bad!! *HUGS*
Oh Sonn I ‘m sorry you had such a scare! 0_0 I think I’d probably have a heart attack if that had happened to any of my rabbits.
Good on ya for being clear enough to get Pacey to the vet right away! And thank God he turned out okay!
When I was a VERY stupid and self-centered teenager, one of my cats was messing with a pair of my pantyhose. I was angry with her and tossed her off the bed, she landed hard and wrong and almost broke her leg. I ran to my dad in tears telling him what I did and he wouldn’t drive me to the vet, said I deserved it. My cousin happened to be there and he drove me to the ER with her. He was my hero after that.
Luckily my kitty only sprained the tendons in her ankle, but I never forgave myself for it, it was the only time I ever lost my temper with her or any other animal for that matter…so I learned something from it, and for her entire life she walked with what I called her “Marilyn Monroe Swish’…as her rear legs always turned in at the heels and she looked like some hussy waddling down the street. >_<
But that was cuz I lost my cool…not an accident. So….doesn’t compare really.
And this post makes me think of how Beka accidentally scooted Meadow across the kitchen floor with her foot…do you guys remember that post? Poor bun came to a stop on some severe disapproval. lol….
Glad to hear Pacey is going to be alright, Sonn. Try not to beat yourself up about it! (((((((hugs))))))) These things happen! It came out alright in the end.
I wish someone would make some kind of device with a little beeping sensor for our lowly built companions that we could strap to them, kind of like the one that you hear when a truck is backing up… so that it would give us a warning when they come in range!

LOL! I literally cracked up when I read this Lara! The best part was of course, trying to dig into you. Amazing.
Sonn, that must have felt terrible! Glad to hear Pacey is all ok – maybe he was winded? House Bunnies have their owns set of risks. I think we could do a poll of how many of us have accidently done something like this. Maybe give him some of those bunny massages you gave Marshmallow. I bet he’s forgiven you, now you just have to forgive yourself. ![]()
OH NO!!! That is so scary! It is not your fault! Accidents happen, but I agree, I’d be beside myself.
My buns scare me sometimes when I’m cleaning b/c they have to check out everything I’m doing and they’re always hopping in and out of the pen as I’m trying to clean. If they get in my way, I’ve been known to give them a gentle shove with my foot. That usually gets them hopping…
I hope he is alright. (((Pacey!)))
It is possible that pacey was actually all right after you stepped on him. He decided in that quick bunny way to make you pay for your transgression not only with the bunny guilt but also the cost of a vet visit. hence why he hopped up when the vet came in. It was like a walking charge account.
Mark bun that is funny. Felony/hooty that is exactly what Cotton does. He gets scooted across the floor sometimes catching air. HE has done this 3x I hope he stops. When he hears the treat bag crinkling and I go into the living room He comes up behind me darting here n there and has gotten scooted about. Scares me everytime.
Oh sonn that sounds so frightening. I would have been crying my eyes out. too.
Funny how he perked right up at the vets with growls and thumps. Rascal
