I just wanted to update you guys on how my little Hershey is doing after losing her housebun husbun Simba back in Septemer. For nearly 2 months she isolated herself from any contact, staying in her tent and charging anytime I reached in to put food or try to pet her.
I tried to give her lots of attention and would take her out at night to the living room in the evenings. After a few minutes of glaring at me while I tried to snuggle with her on the couch, she’d bite me and take off to find her way back to the bunny room. Thumping all the way. But at least it got her out and moving around a bit.
Two weeks ago she decided her mourning time was up I guess. She began coming out of the tent and hanging over the side when I come in the room now, demanding treats and letting me give nose pets again. She still won’t come out of the condo on her own yet. I’ve moved her closer to Pringles and Toby for company but she shows no sign of wanting to be any closer to any them.
She’s eating well and has gained a few ounces up to a whooping weight of 3 lbs 1 oz. and is currently remodeling her box. I’m just happy she seems to be adjusting well.

Oh, I’m so glad she’s getting better. Even for such a tiny rabbit she has pretty big opinions. I think she just feels much more secure in her little condo too. It’s a big scary world out there.
That is the cutest picture of Hershey too – she really is photogenic.
That’s a very good sign, especially gaining weight. She knows you’re there for her when she’s ready, and it clearly is a comfort to her now.
Gosh, her bunny mourning seems to mirror human mourning. It sounds like she’s starting to return to normal, poor little thing. I hope she keeps improving and begins to come out of her condo by herself soon.
I just want to HUG her! Like she’d let me. Thanks for the update on her. ![]()
thanks guys, (whispering: she’s my favorite, don’t tell the others)
Everything about her says I’m Cuddly Squeeze Me! but you’ll sure get a sharp nip on the nose if you try it.
Awww, I’m glad to hear that things are looking up for her. How are you holding out? (((Hugs)))
And she is so freaking cute! EEeeee! ![]()
Even with animals mourning can take a while.
I remember when my male cat died years ago – my little girl cat would not get into “their” basket for 6 months!
Glad she is doing better.
Even pets grieve in different ways just like people. Thats funny she would thump all the way to the bunny room. Glad she is doing better. I am sure she will get back to normal with you and you are giving her her space. It is good that you tried to comfort her anyway but when she wouldn’t accept it let her be. That was smart
She is a beautifull little thing. Wow…
I have to echo the previous sentiments, she is a lovely looking bunny! ^_^ I feel for her, still not too sure of whether anything outside her little world is worth putting up with, but glad to see that she is making a few strides…er…thumps! ^_^ I will keep her in my prayers that she will come all the way around soon.
I know it’s a bit of a hard question, but have you given any thought to her wanting a new bunny for company…if that’s feasible of course? Has she always been standoffish towards the other bunnies you have? I don’t properly recall her history with them.
What a sweetheart. Glad she is starting to come around again.
Hershey seems to be her bossy self again and I’m so glad. I guess without Simba she’s decided to interact with me more, mostly to boss me around…lol. but she is more accepting of pets now. I caught her letting my son actually massage her ears last night, and any attempt at that has always cost at least one finger before.
Once the guinea piggie alarm goes off, she’s in full queen mode hanging over the side and demanding dinner NOW and NO she does NOT want any more of THAT stinking parsley!

What a cute picture. So glad she’s finally enjoying human company too. Bossy little thing.
thanks Sarita, look at those lovely eyelashes……
I do envy those lashes!
Is it snowing where you are at? We are getting very light now in Dallas.
No snow yet, I’ve been watching the radar this morning and saw the big mass split to go around us again….sigh. I just don’t understand why Austin will get snow and not us ;-(
Don’t give up hope! There looks like a big white splotch on the radar I’m looking at and it’s closer to Waco than Austin – just on the edge.
OK, let it snow! I just ran outside because I had forgotten to dig up my aloe plants and move them to the garage and that wind is cold! The members from up north will laugh, but after being close to 70 degrees the last week, a wind chill of 25 is cold!
*sigh* no snow for me in oregon
It should snow everywhere 2 days a year: Christmas eve and christmas day. Then it can go away til the next year in my opinion. lol. Glad to see Hershey is doing better, even if she has to have parsley ![]()
