Ever on the watch to give my bunny, Buddie, a cozy pen with “furniture” and fun-iture that will keep him doing the binkies I was intrigued by how much ferrets seem to enjoy hammocks. Since Buddie has a 6 x 2 ft. exercise pen (a black Go-Go pen I saw on Amazon.com, didn’t want zinc-coated because of the furror over zinc being poisonous to birds and small animals), he had enough room for a Paws’n’Relax hammock that comes with a very easily put together sturdy stand. I was very pleased to find it is made of fleece on one side, canvas on the other. Buddie was intrigued, too. From the moment I set it down in his pen, he was zooming happily in and out of the stand & underneath the hammock – a new ‘tunnelling’ system! – and then suddenly, he planted his front feet on the fleece side up and hoisted his little pear-shaped bottom up onto the fabric like an inchworm! Ever since, he’s been re-visiting the hammock and to make it worth his while, I added some fresh hay in it to keep him busy while he’s lying on it. I may switch the side facing up to the canvas side if the fleece seems to get too warm. Afternoons he spends stretched out in his fleece bunny bed curved inside the bottom of his cat tunnel. I’ve heard of rabbits being scared of getting onto a hammock so if you decide to try it, you might want to put a clean cloth on it so it can be returned if it doesn’t work out.
I like this idea!
This is a Paws’n’Relax hammock . Is this same as what you got?
I like how low it is and that it’s independant of the pen walls. It would provide a bit of extra exercise too. A few members have asked about hammocks before and I know of one that has a bunny that’s a fan. Some bunnies seem to enjoy them. I have a narrow curtain I’ve been wondering about stringing up as a hammock but not sure if it’d be safe enough. This one looks neat – thanks for posting about it. Any chance we can see pics of Buddie in his hammock?
My rabbits shred everything made of fabric. But I have a wooden hammock-style shelf that my smallest rabbit loves.
Kahlua loved her hammock-she was the only bun with the guts to go on it. I donated the thing to the humane society as we just had too many toys but I might need to replace it
Wonder if Monkey would like one… hmm…
While I need to get batteries for my camera for a hammock picture, I took a pic of Buddie on another of his favorite roosting spots, his Hide’n’Sleep bed which is conveniently next to his pellet cup so he can take a nap in the same position after chowing down some pellets. I know if Buddie could talk, he would recommend this bed for other bunnies. The bedspread has Super Pet’s animal friends print and the mattress is purple fleece – all nontoxic materials including the stuffing, although he doesn’t nibble any part of it. He does spend a lot of time perched and napping on it.
A King on his Throne! lol. Thanks for the picture – he’s handsome!
He would be the first to agree with you, on both counts! Thanks for the compliment.
Oh what a cutie! I could sooooo see him in my living room… hehehehe *bunnynaps*
I love that wooden hammock! Its so cool, I wonder if I could figure out how to make one. I think the other hammock and the bed are adorable, but all of my bunnies are obsessed with pulling apart anything that crosses their path so I think they would just shred it to pieces…
MooBunnay, you mean Neigey’s thing you like? I made it, so you can easily do it. The wooden logs have holes drilled in at both ends and then I strung them together with strong wire which hooks onto the cage walls.
oh wow! So you made it yourself? Thats really cool. Which kind of wood did you use for it?
Pine 2 by 2’s I used.
Pacey loves his hammock it is actually the only place he will sleep other than his cardboard box. I have made him quite a few his favorites tend to be the thinner material though for some reason.
Sonn, do you have some photos of those hammocks?
Not on this computer but I will post a few sometime today

Will this hammock likely to fit a full grown flemish? I want to get one for my bunny but shipping to NZ will cost a fortune so want to make sure it will fit him.
Finally snapped the little bugger in his hammock, although in this picture not all of the hammock frame can be seen. To answer your question, the fabric part of the hammock itself measure 16″ long x 10″ wide. Your Flemish giant might hang over the sides a bit! although I don’t offhand know how large a Flemish Giant measures. But knowing the measurement of the cloth and that the frame measures 21″ x 14″ will probably tell you whether your rabbit would fit. Buddie not only likes to nestle in the hammock, he loves to twine in and out of the frame like a little tunnel for him. As you can see, I plenish it with hay. Ozbo Pet Supplies probably has the best deal on this hammock, whether through amazon.com or just through the pet store themselves and delivery should be quick. Happy holidays, hope your bunny would fit!
By the way, Ozbo’s number is: 866 601-5616 8:30 – 5 Eastern Time and the Paws’n’Relax hammock is listed at Ozbo as “Ferret Hammock Assortment – Medium” You might want to ask them if they carry a large version of this hammock for your Flemish that might be even more suitable. The cloth I got from them is fleece on one side, canvas on the other, machine washable to 30 degrees C.
This may give you a better idea of the size of the hammock in relation to my rabbit who weighs 2.6 lbs. measures about 12″ long lying down, although the picture was taken thru the pen wall.
So sweet! Buddies colouring is lovely too.
Lillika, I guess you have to check out if will it support Jaspers adult weight too!!! What ever that may turn out to be.
Neigey’s former hammock has been turned into an NIC tunnel cover to make a shelf. I think he just loves the wooden logs, hammock or not.
Thank you, Jerseygirl, for the nice compliment. I just wish Buddie would let me brush through his colouring with my new Hairbuster. I got the Ultra T with the tightly spaced tines and tried to brush through a mat in his undercoat and he freaked. Now when I just touch him with that comb, he panics that he’s going to feel hurt and barrels away from me through his tunnel. I should have been more patient and lifted the comb away when I saw that there was a mat. I hope I got the right kind of comb. Bunnytowne has the Ultra and likes it for combing through Princess Ruby’s long hair, she’s also a lionhead like Buddie. I probably should have gotten the Ultra.
Neigey looks nice and comfortable on his wooden logs. He’s probably grateful to you that he isn’t on wire flooring.
By the way, Ozbo Pet Supplies web address is Ozbo.com You might find it easier to email them than to call them from New Zealand.
ur little buddie is ADORABLE he looks like a smaller long haired version of my shelby their colors are almost the same u have such a little cutie i dont know how u get anything done i would want to watch him all day!
The answer is, I DON’T get anything done all day, or haven’t been,…just barely lol His pen is right next to my computer and so I can keep an eye on him, and do! …Thanks for the compliment, your little Shelby sounds like a cutie, too. I was just at the gate of Buddie’s pen, giving him petting attention and as much brushing as “the traffic will allow” if you know what I mean. I have to be very very gentle when I’m brushing him with the hairbuster as it grabs at the fur and if there’s a mat, he’s outta there! I want to keep his trust and just go about it gently even though the first few times I brushed him more vigorously it caught an awful lot more hair in the tines. But I think it’s best to be patient and just groom him with what feels comfortable to him, and keep him on my side and enjoying the brushing. Although I have a feeling he merely tolerates it, and much prefers my hand petting him than dragging the comb through his hair!
Buddie is in his hammock again, and I had my camera. In case you can’t make out Buddie in my “wall” pic, here’s a better one.
Jerseygirl, did you ever get the hammock for your Flemish giant Are his measurements small enough to sit on it?
Well my flemish giant is imaginary as is his hammock. I think it was Lillika ^ that was looking into it for her flemish Jasper.
Ooops – Sorry, Jerseygirl! I thought that was your wall display next to Lillika’s question about the hammock. Maybe it’s time to have my vision checked. LOL Sorry for the confusion. I think you’re right about Lillikal, thanks. I just wondered if Lillika’s Jasper has his hammock yet. Lillika, are you listening?
I really like the hammock idea. Marely has a baby pillow he loves to sleep on and I bet he love this hammock. If he doesn’t have his pillow he will shredd everything up lol.
We just got a hammack for our Bunny and she loves it. I wasnt sure if she would like it at First but then we came home and Tootsie Roll was sitting in it.
Tootsie Roll! What an adorable name, is that her posed with your little one? They’re both cuter than this world! I’m glad Tootsie Roll likes her hammock. Let me know if you catch her sleeping in it as well. And try to get a picture!
This sounds *awesome*. I wonder if my bun would like one? He has a “couch” I made him, that he loves to sleep on. Maybe he’d like a hammock too.
