Yes, you should definitely get her spayed, as personalities can change after spaying and you don’t want the bond to break.

They should both definitely be fixed, especially before starting bonding between them. Make sure you give each bunny plenty of time afterwards to heal and let their hormones settle before starting.

Also, for female rabbits the spay is quite necessary. pet rabbits have a very high chance (80%) of contracting ovarian cancer by the ages of 3-5. You want to give them 30 days after the surgeries to work out all the hormones. Also, male rabbits have been known to impregnate female rabbits up to 2 weeks after being neutered. How they do iit, I don’t know.

That’s weird. I’d look for another vet that can do the female. There was a link around these parts but not sure where it is. An ad on the front page took me to http://www.vetsnearyou.com and you could put in your zip and ask them if they spay rabbits.

Well you do want to keep an eye on him but boy buns usually recover quickly.  The thing you want to make sure of is that he’s eating, pooping and not grinding his teeth.  All of these are signs of discomfort.  And when I say ‘eating’, do realize that he’ll feel a little bit under the weather for a few hours after the operation so if he’s not pigging out as usual the moment you get home, don’t be alarmed.  If he’s still not eating 8 hours after he’s home, then you might want to watch him a bit more carefully.

The main thing is that you want to restrict his movement for the first couple of days to give the incisions some time to heal.  You’ll need to keep him in his cage or, if he is free roam, pen him into a smaller area.  He’ll be upset but it is for the best.

It is true that a male can still impregnate a female after his neuter (my info says one month after), so you definitely want to keep them separated.

Hopefully you can find a vet that knows how to spay because of the cancer issue as well as she could have false-pregnancies when she is around the male. Which means her body is telling her she is pregnant even though she’s not and she can get extremely feisty and territorial during this time – she’ll build a nest and everything. This can cause fights between her and the male and be very stressful for her….and you, as she can get territorial with you too.

As far as his recovery in a couple of week, MarkBun has given you some great advice. Here are some more tips from the HRS site which includes information regarding pre-post surgery for spays too which will be helpful for the future. http://www.rabbit.org/faq/sections/spay-neuter.html#pre-post-care.

                            Keep us updated.

How old is she? If she is about 5-8 months, her hormones could be kicking in (and she will behave like this until she is spayed, or possibly until she starts to calm down at about 2-3 years.)

How long have you had her? If you’ve had her less than one month and she is over the age of about 4-5 months, it could be possible that she is legitimately pregnant. Or it could be a false pregnancy induced by the presence of a male.

In my experience, unspayed females can be very, very nasty: territorial, aggressive, not a whole lot of fun to be around. Health reasons aside, it truly is necessary for her to be spayed.

The cage is fine as long as they are at least 3 inches apart at all times. Bunnies can bite or MATE thru cage bars… The presence of your male may be enough to put her into a false pregnancy, they don’t actually have to be in contact or able to see each other… she can smell him and he can smell her.
