Only other rabbit slaves would be as excited about this.

Since Jackson entered in August, my normal use of Hay has gone through the roof. He is a big guy and thankfully is a good hay eater. Coco would nurse a small bag of Oxbow for a couple of weeks and while she was eating the hay, her overall intake was on par for a small Dutch girl.

With Jackson, I was whipping through the larger bags of Oxbow weekly ( in addition to maybe 2 to 3 smaller bags).  Here in Montreal, there is only one place I can buy the Oxbow Hay ( my exotics vet) and the big bags? 22 bucks.

So I did some looking around and found a guinea pig rescue operation who also sells Hay from local farms ( Ontario). I got 16 pounds for 24 bucks, which is a huge savings. The farm they buy from grows for “show goats” so they are fussy about the hay.  Just placed a few handfuls down and there is great enthusiasm being shown. Jackson is still in there, rooting through nibbling.

Which leads me to my next topic – Could there be a place for BinkyBunny members to maybe note where they buy their supplies, like Hay, or wood pellets? I find it ridiculously hard in Montreal to find places – which seems counterintuitive – but  this place can be awful when you are trying to track down something like “big bags of Hay” and the 15 mintues of driving just saved me at least 60 bucks in Hay.

At any rate, I had to share, and my Husband and Daughter didn’t quite get why I was so jazzed to be hauling 16 pounds of Hay home….

2 bails in my kitchen. At my house you get hair & hay in your food & drinks.

That’s a good idea! Maybe it could be pinned on the boards for a while, then put into FAQ. Something  obvious like “SUPPLIES DIRECTORY”  in House Rabbit Q & A forum?  I’ve seen something like this for a vet list on a forum before. Members posted rabbit vets for there area.
