I’ve been off the boards for a bit – got laid off from my job and was helping run a local sf steampunk convention….
But I had to come back and share this – Pepper had a real breakthrough last weekend.
Background – she’s a rescued park dump, and I’ve had her for 3.5 years. She was always confident and would approach people but very skittish about touch. It was the better part of a year before she decided that head-pets might be acceptable, and only last winter did she actually start coming up on the couch as asking for pets. She would hang around the room when other people were around, sniffing and trying to snatch food but NO TOUCHY!!!!!
Well, since I got laid off about 2 weeks ago so I’ve been home a lot. Pepper is quite pleased with this turn of events because I am more available for skritchings upon request. Saturday night I had a couple of people over to watch videos, and not only did she sniff them all thoroughly but she actually nudged one guys hand and let him pet her!
(I’m not sure whether I’m happy that she’s finally decided that people are OK or jealous because she’s finally letting someone besides me pet her…)
She even *gasp* hopped up on people’s LAPS! And they didn’t even have FOOD!!!
Sigh. My little bossy/scaredy bun is finally realizing that no one is going to eat her!!! I’m so proud of her.
