  I notied Stormy’s little foot calluses increasing in size so I wanted to give him something for bedding. He spends most of his time in his cardboard house which sits on his plastic floor. I’ve tried Carefresh and Blankets and neither one worked (carefresh was a snack and blankets get chewed and angrily thrown out of the house). I put some old phone book pages through the paper shredder and put that in his house. He seems to like it. Does anyone else use shredded paper? It’s nice for him to have some padding in there too as his cage bottom can get a bit chilly at night.
  
  Bindi also has shredded brown paper and phone book paper in his “diggy box” in his cage. He loves to dig and tear it up, but his poor feet are so black! I like him to have a nice soft diggy box (which he often sleeps in) since he has sore hock issues.

  I think it sounds like a really good solution! Otto has a phone book which he never ever chews, but I often find him just sitting on it in his pen for long periods of time So I guess they’re comfy! I don’t like to give him newspaper in general though because, like Bindi, it makes his little feets all black. I only use it to line his travel carrier since he always pees in it.

  I have a nice stack of undyed paper that we got when we moved to wrap stuff up in. Monkey loves it! She plays with it in her paper bag all the time, and often naps in there. It has no print, so I don’t have to worry about ink rubbing off, not that I’d notice if it did with her being black

  Unfortunately, the phone books we have here have ink that rubs off, although not as much as newspaper.
  
  Any idea what type of ink is usually used for print in phone books?

  most phone books here use soy based inks, so its bunny safe.

  Newspring and phone books are totally safe
  
  You’ll have to change it more often but it’s practically a free litter/bedding!!

  i use newspaper for bedding! i get it free on campus…. the new york times is the best one very thick!

  My trio pees on shredded paper and soft fleece too. I want something soft for Lint so much, I’m looking to get a plush kitty tube for him to sleep in.

  They soy based ink of phone books is perfectly safe.
  
  But as Monkeybun said, you can get plain newsprint that’s used for packing and wrapping. They sell a stuffed, flat box of it at UHaul stores. It’s very clean and if you shredded it, it would be just tons and tons from one box. It’s a good alternative to black feet if you’re using it as bedding.

  Does shredded bond paper(plain) or paper bags can be used as bedding? And is it safer than newspaper or other dyed paper to chew cuz it’s plain/undyed? Thanks in advanced!

  Hi LittleGiant! This thread is very old, and we ask members not to revive old threads. Advice in old threads can be outdated.
  
  It’s impractical to use shredded paper as bedding, and unless you have an enormous stash of paper bags I’d sooner use wood stove pellets in the litter box. Paper can be used as bedding and it’s better than newspaper because even if the newspaper dye is deemed safe, it can stain the bunny. Many of us here use cheap fleece blankets or pieces of fleece blankets as bedding. It’s safer than woven fabric and buns tend to like snuggling and digging in fleece.
  
  But if you’re just looking for an inexpensive and practical type of litter for the litterbox, wood stove pellets are great for that. It’s sold in like hardware stores/home improvement stores and it’s normal use is to heat homes. You want a type that hasn’t got any accelerants in it.
