        Hey all,

I know it is probably nothing, but is it normal for a bunny to go food crazy????

Little Jimmy May has always eaten ok (apart from when she didn’t and we had her to the vet) but now it seems that she cannot get enough!!!

Hay, veggies, pellets etc, it is all gone almost as soon as it is given to her!!!

Do bunnies get a growth spurt when they hit 1 like teenagers and just get starving??? Any ideas or theories would be appreciated.

        Thanks again

        Matt and Jimmy-May

My buns do go thru phases where it seems the veggies/pellets are gone before they hit the bowl… I’m not sure if buns have “growth spurts” or it may even have something to do with shedding cycles…

What does she get everyday, when does she get it, and in what amounts?

You’ll want to keep a close eye on her hay of course. It’s fine if she runs out of veggies and pellets, but she needs to always have plenty of hay. When my buns are eating more than usual, I am sometimes replenishing their hay 3 times a day.

It could be a health issue.. Worms sometimes increase the appetite (other times it decreases it, I think it depends on the worm, I’m not sure). Diabetes would increase their appetite as well, it’s rare in rabbits but it does happen. Is she also drinking more?

I don’t know about the growth spurt, I think rabbits are (mostly) done growing by the time they’re 6 months old.

It could indeed be nothing, but any changes in your rabbits behavior are worth some attention. If you’re concerned you can always have a vet check her poops for parasites.

              Hey there

Thinking about it, she has been shedding like crazy recently so maybe that explains it?

She gets fresh hay and water every morning, along with half a handful of pellets and some veggies before I go to work. This will get topped up when low if my girlfriend is home from work. Otherwise I keep a check on it through the evening.

She always has enough hay (this is hers when she wants it), but no she eats all the pellets where she used to leave some, and the veggies are hoovered up like craxy 🙂

              Thanks

              Matt
